Biologic Green Patch Plus

Recommended Posts

Going to do my first ever food plots this year... Already sprayed and removed the weeds.... Limed and fertilized this past weekend and now I am going to till and plant Green Patch plus... Anyone plant it in NY before??? How was it for deer?? Did it work later into the season??? I'll post pics later... But hoping my first effort works....

It was the very first plot I ever planted and it's a good value for the seed. It was the best buck on a bag option for late season plantings before brassicas really became a favorite to plot. I do believe the mix has changed slightly.

I'd have that stuff in the ground asap, however. Time is a bit short on that respect.

After spraying, we hacked them down and then weed whacked to get it to bare ground...

My wife on the left.... Another hunting partner on the right... Yup.. 2 women.. They work as hard as I do... ;-).. The guys I hunt with decided not to do this...

Got it down close as we could...

Thanks... Yeah.. it was a lot more work than originally thought... But glad we did it... Hoping it will grow well... All of Sept. before we get anything remotely cold I'm thinking then figure 1/2 way through before the first real frost... Fingers crossed... Next year I'll be planting earlier in August...

good job! I bet it will draw deer even by just promoting new young growth in the weeds and other plants. And I am sure that the seed will germinate and give some forage.  I don't know that the heck G-man was talking about.... Lime, fertilizer, soil testing, sure sounds to me like you did everything you could with what you had!! Its a learning experience as is anything else and I am sure you will be hooked! Good luck this season!

What I am talking about, is if you food plot, you want to place your plots strategically. Many fallow fields are bedding areas.(think crp fields) your better off with a bedding area than a feed area. Just because a field is not used by a farmer doesn't mean its not being used by game in another way. I started food plotting back in 93 and made the mistake of clearing a fallow field. That was prime bedding late season (south facing slope surrounded by woods) the deer came to the plot but started bedding on my neighbors who intercepted them on way to my plot all iI am saying is before you start dropping/making plots everywhere know what you may be removing that maybe more vvalue able to your place.

Aren't you hunting too close to this plot not to tip the deer off with your presence/entry/exit? Would back off your locations a bit and hit them on travel in....a mature buck or doe will almost always wind check a plot before entry

used the mix when it first came out- deer ate it...remember the brassica in there smelled awful

The farmers tractor road comes up right behind the blind... If you look, you can see the 3 acre corn field behind the blind he put in for me... As for easy in and out access, thos two spots are VERY quiet to get in and out of... As for blowing deer out, my thinking is, they won't spend hours there, they might use it for staging before going out to the fields at dark... At least I hope they do... LOL  As stated, this is a first attempt so I'm hoping to learn a lot...
