Hey guys I am interested in doing some bow hunting at ridge out east on long island.  I have heard it is free to hunt there and from what I have heard there have been some great harvest coming out of those woods.  Has anyone had any experience hunting there? And if so can you give me a few pointers as to what I have to do to be able to hunt there?  Thanks guys I cant wait for October 1st its going to be an amazing season!

If you hunt there in October make sure you have the free land access permit with you because DEC does check. Also don't limit yourself to the Ridge area because once November comes the small game hunters will be in the woods with you. Look into hunting some of the suffolk county properties like Hubbards Park. Some really nice deer out there, less pressure and you don't have to check in. Good luck

have seasonal pass in your window, a copy of one with you in the woods

park at an open spot, spots are 1 car per spot for the most part, walk in and hunt until Nov. 1st after Nov. 1st it's daily access permit required from check station

yea everyone keeps warning me about that.  I haven't hunted Suffolk before and I keep hearing about all the nasty stuff you can catch from the ticks out there.  I have heard turkeys eat ticks however im not positive about that. If so they should consider releasing wild turkey in the area if it would have any kind of impact on the tick population.  When applying tick repellent do you spray on your skin or all over your boots and clothes? Do they have scent proof tick repellent that the deer wont smell?  I went to sterling state forest and got caught up in the pricker bush marshes and came out with about 15 different ticks crawling up my orange vest!  Some of them were all black with a little red dot on them.  Nasty looking little things I was flicking them out the window on the drive home!

Shawnhu we are not saying hunting in Nassau all hintong properties are in Suffolk however Suffolk residents have more options as there are Suffolk county park land with the additional permits ect...

As for the original question yes Nassau residents can deer hunt rocky point, Otis pike, and David Sarnoff park. As of Nov.1st Otis like and rocky point require daily access permits, David Sarnoff to my knowledge is park at designated spots and hunt with seasonal permit displayed in window

As for ticks, spray your clothes with sawyer permathin, it is oderless when it dries and it is a tick repellent/killer, in addition I always duct tape my pants cuffs to my boots, stay out of the real nasty scrub brush and you should he fine

Aaron, btw the Suffolk has some of the largest wild turkeys you will see in NYS, they only host a fall junior season as of now and turkey hunting was prohibited until a few years ago, long island turkeys died of old age lol really some huge goblers

Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

      Hey All,
New to the forum, already missing the deer season and have curiosity to quell. This was a great non-typical I was chasing all season in a bow-only area of Ithaca. Anyone know or hear of a non-typical of this caliber being killed? I'll be out scouting for him aggressively soon enough. Thanks!
      Nick

Hello folks. I'm a novice hunter from almost Central NY. I live amongst the cow fields about 20 minutes south of the ADK park. I'm here hoping that I can learn from those who know more than I do. That's probably most of you. LOL. This is my second season and so far I still have all of my tags. I have a rifle but I'm not comfortable shooting it in the area I hunt due to people being near. I'm hoping to fill at least one of my tags before Dec 19.
