The snow has now reveled what I was trying to figure out.....there is a 15 acre golden rod field near by...they are hiding in there...feeding on us then going back into the field..crazy the amount of tracks coming and going along the edge of that field and our place the whole length of line....that is where both this mornings buck were headed...

Grow, from my experiences the deer absolutely love golden rod. Especially big bucks. The best days I have found to hunt over it are when the sun is out or when we have gotten a fresh coating of snow. I can't even count the amount of bucks we have shot driving golden rod fields during shotgun. Best of luck!

Got my first deer (ever!) last night! Got to say, I got a lot of insight from this group, tips, tricks, and hang in there support. Thanks to everyone :)

I met a local man from this list, and he became a mentor to me (came out

last night to help me track, field dress, and process, my doe). Thanks to all for being willing to support new hunters as we try to find our way :)

It's been a pleasure getting to know you and I was glad I was able to help with your first. I think I may have been just as excited if not more!

Hunted yesterday on private property out east Long Island. Had one, if not my best day yet. Had a hot doe making laps with a buck parade in tow. Saw seven different bucks with one 3 year old shooter. He came in at first light and pushed off two young ones. Grunted him to about 15 yards but never presented a clean shot. Had action from sun up to sun down! My buddy was set up on the other side and saw all the same deer plus a 2 year old seven he let walk. Truly an amazing day in the woods! Looks like it is happening, unfortunately I work all week. Good luck to all.

Today was the perfect weather. Saw deer finally! Had a buck sneak in. I built a ground blind on state land 100 acre spot here where it's hammered with bow hunters and people walking dogs. Either way, I get to my blind and see a fresh scrape 20 yards down the deer trial. The buck was 8 yards from me, I had the bow up and but couldn't draw it back because it was so close and looking my way. It spooked away, too bad. I wanted to fill my tag today :/

I have been hunting the mornings in 4F with snow on the ground and a mixed bag of deer. Some chasing, but still lots of does with fawns. I have had several nice shots, but nothing I was interested in. The weather has been cold, but the wind has been holding off until about 10:30-11:00.

Even though I have seen some chasing, the does have not seemed all that ready. Yesterday I watched a young buck try and mount a doe twice, and she laid right down both times. He was chasing a couple other young bucks away off and on for an hour. Finally, a 2 1/2 year old 8 came in and bristled up and ran him off. He went over and sniffed the doe over and went trotting off.  Best part was that this was all happenning between 10 and 60 yards from my stand. No shooters, but plenty of action. Like the last couple years, it looks like the bucks will be in full chase mode here for the opener of gun.

Nothing came in until I had blind all closed up and gear packed...then the doe I shot  and lost showed up with a fawn....I could just make out dark wound and she was limping and very spooky...but feeding fine...one other big doe showed as well...all after legal...had a pretty moon lit walk home

kicked up several on the way in..not good...saw nothing until 8:40 then either a real big fawn and sibling ran down under old reliable...I decided to go further in the the buck stand...or it was a small doe and fawn....they stood there about 5 minutes looking down towards neighbors swamp...before heading there...they met up with a few other deer and continued down hill...at (a.m I saw the big boy...he was pacing back and fore where the doe had been then turned to walk aayI gave a couple of grunts and he stopped..then stared again...I hit the rattle bag and stopped him again...then lost sight...I waited and waited but no buck or movement until 9:45....and a coyote moved in circling around.....then toe really got sore and I packed it in...I need heated socks...lol

Nice evening .lets see getting dressed next to car in field, decent buck crosses in front of me and shiney red car about 40 yards away....

Walk to edge to trim out a gun stand I just moved and a giant pushes a doe out of thicket into cut corn. Ok trimming out lanes with hand saw,Zuba,Zuba,Zuba, and another buck crosses out of hardwoods into thicket maybe 50 yards from me. Hum liking this new stand spot for gun.

Walk on to stand I'm using there is the giant chasing the doe with an unknown hanging back.

On stand nothing, seemed like just one hot doe causing all the fuss.

Think I'm calling it till gun.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
