suburbanfarmer
imho its cheaper and better to buy him one with a dedicated deer barrel. But if you are set on a separate barrel here is a link https://www.opticsplanet.com/rxbl-r27599-870-exp-20-18-fr-cl.html

I have a good condition 20 ga smooth bore with sites. Does OK with Remington Sluggers, I used it a couple of year. $40? PM me if interested
Farflung
I would get him a slug barrel with rifling and a cantilevered scope mount. the way that a 870 barrel attaches to the receiver, every time you change barrels or even tighten down the circular nut at the end of the magazine, the point of impact will change. But not with a scope mounted on a csntilivered barrel.

Yes, I would recommend you go a little deeper and get him the rifled barrel to go with that hotrod. I have a 20 with rifled and it’s a tack driver. Would take that thing deer hunting anywhere in the country. Those 20’s are sweet.
farmer 52
Yes the rifled with the cantilever scope mount really seems to be best choice. The 20g barrels are far and few between and extremely pricey.
