Paying the hundred dollars, give us a legal means to hunt. How we choose to do so is our own choice. I choose not to say another hunters way of hunting is wrong, because its different than my way. I'm as far as you can get from being some liberal that likes throwing money to the government. So you hunt your way and I'll hunt mine. I really don't have a problem with that. It's all good!

I spend a tremendous amount of money on hunting last year telling my wife i will make it up on the money we save on beef.

Ate tag soup and she didnt let me hear the end of it.

This year she makes apoint of reminding me.

Every time i step in the woods im feeling the i gotta get at least one to shut her up. I agree with stubby. Dont make no sense to give money away to uncle sam for nothin

Don't take it the wrong way, but unless you're hunting the back 40 or a family farm, the cost of hunting is always going to outweigh the price of meat in a store, after you allow for licenses, gear, travel, fees & taxes (if you own a camp, lease, or belong to a club). I'd tell the wife just be glad you're not golfing.

Unless you are just starting out the only thing that makes hunting expensive is license fees. Otherwise you should have a gun and everything else you need and when spread out over a few years that pays for itself. Unless you are one who needs all the latest and greatest gadgets every year, all you need is gun amo clothes , knife and tow rope, maybe some food if you are going for a whole day. Most of the stuff guys take is really not needed. I can get alot more venison for $100 then I can beef.

Most money i spent this year was on my wifes xbow and gettin her hunting stuff.

Last year was my first year. This year is hers. The only thing i spent money on was tolls and gas which most times gets split two or three ways. That and tags.

I personally dont spend to much on wants. If i get lucky enough to fill my freezer i would save quute a bit of money. I dont need to but i like to offset my costs

And mind u venison is expensive as heck. When i didnt get a dear last year i found a place that sells it for like 10 or 20 a pound. Free deer savees money

I hunt for the freezer. This being said I'll pass on small doe , spikes, BB's and baskets as the $ to get deer processed isn't worth it to get processed $ vs pound.  I'll shoot a decent buck that others will wait on to shoot a bigger one. Wife ,daughter and I will eat 2 deer a year but 3 would be ideal. I shoot   2 or 3  a year so we're content on what I'm doing.

Southold Long Island?

Yes, on the north fork.

An “Earn a Buck” program will be in effect for the 2014 season. In general, only antlerless deer may be harvested, except as provide below:

No hunter shall harvest a buck on Town property before both DMP tags (tags issued through this office) are used and accounted for. The “Earn a Buck” program encourages the harvesting of does to help balance the deer population and helping correct the damage to our fragile ecosystem in the area.
