growalot
Just how many turkey nests will be lost.... The standing corn was cut this week end and with the clover growing so fast and the feed bunkers being depleted..... I'm sure there will be an early first cutting.... maytom
Don't think nesting birds will be in the corn fields? Most nests I have stumbled on always have been in the woods along logging roads.

jjb4900
I'm sure a few fawn will fall victim to that as well.
landtracdeerhunter
I have come across a couple nesting turkey along a west hedgerow in red clover. I don't cut this area till 4th of July as it is also a favored area for fawn placement. They seem to favor red clover over alfalfa, for some reason. growalot
The local dairy farmer did something I haven't seen before...he went into a 30 acre clover feild that was nearly 2 ft high and dumped several inches of liquid manure on it...so much that it completely flattened and totally covered a the clover...we frequently see pheasants in that area...between those and the turkey..I do wonder..he spread it right to the wood line...That sits over a well known trout stream....

Nice finds. Keep us posted on how they fair.
landtracdeerhunter
Farmers have use clover for plow down around here for years. With the price of clover seed where it is, most have switched over to oats today. With the dry May we've had, I'm quite surprise that isn't going in the bunk. I know my yield will be down at least 30%.
