agross
Question for anyone with knowledge about average cost for digging a well for house water and also a septic system. Assume property not in the watershed area, most likely going to be in Chenango or Broome county. I was looking at buying land and then having a double wide put on the property as a home. Obviously the additional costs of having a well dug and a septic system or cesspool are added. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.
G-Man
3000 to 5000 for well depending how deep they have to go. Septic system for 3 bedroom sand filter should be 5000 to 6500.00
virgil
I just had a well and septic done. My well cost a lot- over $10k. They had to go about 260 feet down. The price included everything- the well, the pressure tank, the pump, all the necessary wiring, etc. The septic was about $4k. This was in Otsego County. First-light
7 years ago I paid $3500 for a 180' well in Steuben county. That included everything, just turn on the water. Septic ran about $6,500. Tank and leach field. Remember you need an engineer to design the septic system. That was my case 7 years ago. Best two investments I ever made!! virgil
Wow. That's a big price difference. I don't know much about it- maybe the price has a bit to do with the specific area as well as the depth. I got a couple of estimates and they were all pretty similar. Unless maybe the cost of materials has gone up a lot over the last couple of years. HectorBuckBuster
The septic needs a perk test, and then that will determine the type of system you put in.
jrm
Going about 5 years back... Water - just under $10k. Well was 398 ft deep if I remember correctly. That included everything - pump, pressure tank, etc. All I had to do was turn on the faucet. Well pricing is generally a set fee up to xx ft and then you pay by the foot after that. Septic - 4 BR house with 1250 gal tank. This is IN the watershed, which added to the cost - around $13k complete. Perc test will determine type of system needed. If my per rate was bad, I could have been forced to go with a system that costs twice as much. Depending on the area you are looking in, it MAY make sense to have a perc test done (based on location you plan to build) prior to closing.
