Ants ate my 880i

Looks like ants nested in my one of my cameras.  Got in through the card slot and ate through the electronics the seals on the lens.  I sent it back to the Moultrie.  They replaced it under warranty (they are awesome). I've never had that before, I opened the camera box and there had to be thousands of them on the camera crawling around.

That's a bummer with a good outcome! 

 

One of my cameras recently had a huge spider condo set up located between the tree and the camera housing.  I got some weird pics when he/she was on the camera lens and something triggered the sensor.........if it ain't squirrels, chipmunks, birds or tall weeds it'll be ants and spiders!

Put cotton ball sprayed with bug spray on inside of cover, that should keep them out.

I did that and still had ants ruin 2 Primos cameras . Took them apart and cleaned things up and they still won't work .

Ants wreak havoc on the cams themselves, they eat/chew a lot of the components believe it or not, which is why they break cams.

 

If you have ants - remove cam from the field. Place cam in freezer for 24 hours. Take cam apart and blow out the dead ants and re-assemble. Don't set cam in same spot.

 

If you fear ant issues, you can dab a variety of chemicals around the tree itself that the cam is hung on rather than the cam itself as many of the chemicals can damage cam bodies or components. I've only had ant issues 1-2 times and I'll ring permetherin around the tree to prevent revisits. Not foolprood and generally only a summer use. I don't like to mess with chemicals and cams as the season approaches. Diatamaceous earth around the tree on the ground even works some.
