Taping my gun

Will putting tape on my gun ruin my finish? I was thinking of adding some tape to my gun this year to add some break up to it but do want to ruin the finish or have it be stuck on there. I was thinking about using hockey tape. Has any one done this before?

I used this I bought mine from Ebay . It is re-usable and only sticks to itself. It did have an odor for a while when new. I used it on a satin silver scope to reduce glare.http://www.amazon.com/McNett-Digital-19411-Camouflage-Misc/dp/B001DT9MUQ

You should be fine. I have used cloth camo tape in the past and it was no problem.

Clean the oil off first where you want to put the tape , naptha or cig. lighter fluid will remove most glues if any is left if you take the tape off.

I wouldn't use cloth tape...it will hold moisture.

I bought some vinyl camo tape from Dicks, the Hunters Specialties No-Mar gun tape.   Looks dull enough.

 

I need it to cover the what so far is the best still hunting gun I have, a Puma/Rossi 92 16" bbl with fiber optic sights in 454 casull.  Use heavy 45LC Buffalo bore or light Win 454 deer loads in it.  Very fast.

 

But its the Stainless Steel version!! shines like a beacon, buddy said he could see it across 2 mountains last year the Adirondacks, hence the vinyl tape.  Just hope it doesn't reflect light.

Make sure you have no bubbles or creases, mine did and I got a few surface rust areas when I pulled it off.
