DEC: rg 8 we need more hunters.

MORE hunters!! I seen guys sitting in the middle of an alfalfa field back to back on 5gl buckets. and 8 guys with PA plates surrounding a 1ac woods.

I see no shortage of hunters in rg 8 I have lived in rg 8 for 40 ys and have never checked a deer in at avon..so I don't think they should base any knowledge of deer/hunter %

They are correct about the public land statement. Half of the people I know (myself included) that hunt do not have access to private land.The State Land I hunted yesterday had enough hunters I thought, not too crowded and I felt safe. I am sure there is plenty of private land that gets little hunting pressure in region 8 especially near Rochester. Low deer numbers at the DEC check station is because the doe population is down in my observations from this past bow season hunting in region 8.

I had the worst season seeing deer this year in 8g so there just trying to kill all of them

Theres alot of land in the region that is unhunted. Just because you havent seen many deer doesnt mean they arent there.

I didn't have a whole lot of luck with that link, but I assume it was about a perceived shortage of hunters in region 8.

 

I will say that in our valley in region 8, I was struck with the shortage of shooting. From what I have seen there, it is not due to a shortage of deer, so the quiet opener must have to do with something else. Even all the shots before legal shooting time was not up to the usual standard ..... lol. I'm sure there are a lot of deer that are not even aware of a deer season being I progress.

 

I can't speak for the rest of region 8, and can only report from one very small part of it. I have seen a steady decline of hunter participation over the last decade or two, or three, and particularly in the last few years. And Sunday was absolutely dead.

 

But that's all ok. I'm sure the bowhunters in those first two weeks straightened out the population numbers just fine with the "doe only" burden. Maybe that's why the shooting in our area was so slight. The bowhunters shot them all .... ha-ha-ha. Way to go DEC. Another display of absolute brilliance .... lol.

And over in my spot in 8h deer are everywhere . Are there less hunters ? Sure I guess, bad for the hunting going forward , Great for me , gun season is like bow season this year, deer just walking around like nothing's going on . Best season in years .

My only competition is moms in SUVs and yuppies commuting in BMWs.

Public land in 8w was hunted hard lots of shooting. Deer drives and the whole nine yards opening day. 8r land of a million does and no access was quiet. I bet more than a few 8w does got a nice 8r extra drawing tag on them.
