Forty one years ago today, I killed my first spring gobbler.

He was a 14 pound jake with a four inch beard. I was thrilled and hooked for life.

I still have his wishbone hanging on my memory shelf, labeled  May 15, 1975.

Wow- 41 years turkey hunting---hope you enjoy many more !! Here in Orange County- the very 1st gobbler I saw- I shot at in 1990. He kept flying.  Only wish there were turkeys in Orange County in 1974 when I was 14. There were probably just a few back then.  Now Orange County is overrun with them!!

Actually, Bill, it is 43 years of spring turkey hunting..I hunted 1973 and 1974 and never killed a bird until 1975.

There was not a lot of turkey hunting info available at that time, and  remember saying, out of frustration, " If I ever KILL one of these dam things, I'm going to GIVE IT UP, but I'm going to kill one".

Then, of course, after I finally shot one, I was hooked.

That's neat that you thought to write it on the wish bone, wish I had thought of that. I have been Turkey hunting for 24 years now, started when I was 12, I cant tell you what year I killed my first or how old I was but it was early on. Maybe '93, I do remember the first couple of turkeys I killed like it was yesterday though...ahh memories. I also wish I had kept track of how many birds I have called in, I have always been the caller since I was @13 and I have called in so many for others I can't remember.
