How things change...

So many years of predictable behavior and it's all changed. The birds would roost and feed right around the cardboard blind area right to the house...they had some favorite food there...I think beetles and the blanket of wild flowers that grow here. Not this year and I could always count on being able to have a clear view from the house to the blind 1300 ft. Away..this year the leaf cover is making that difficult...I do not recall having this much green up for the opener ever and we have 5 days to go. I'm not sure What I'll be doing  on Monday...,other then sitting and calling and hoping somewhere.

I agree grow, Used it have only a few awesome roost spots. they were go to spots almost every year. now they roost in many others around the properties on the hill. And my favorite roost site is being clear cut as we speak.. kind of sad. Id imagine the birds will be roosted on private property next door most of the time now..

A few years ago we had an early spring with green up i thought. but other than that, it is fairly early for sure.

Just my $.02, but the whole game of spring turkey hunting has changed in the last 5 years or so.

Birds don't gobble as much as they used to, nor are they as easy to decoy. The weather seems to be a lot warmer before the season starts. I guess birds are learning to adapt to predators & hunting pressure, so if we want to kill turkeys, we have to adapt as well.

All this, and the growing number of hens. The toms don't have to do much besides be present

I agree.  The ratio of hens to Tom's is very lopsided in my area.  Tuff to get one to brake away from a sure thing let alone 10 of them.  By mid season the best technique is to ambush them. Don't call at all.
