Tax auction land surrounded by state forest

It won't go for market value. I bought 5 acres with a derelict house for $2000 last year. That was on a state highway. The lack of road access is a problem if someone wants to build. If you just want a place to hunt, you could post it and walk in. It doesn't look far.

Three sides are Basswood Pond State Forest but the 4th side is privately owned land.  I'd talk to whoever owns that side of the land and see if they are planning to buy the land, would be willing to allow access across their land, would sell an easement to it, or anything else that might shed light on the ability to access the property.  But, I'll bet whoever that private landowner is, they will be at the auction hoping to get that acreage real cheap.
