Al Bundy
Filled my xbow tag few days ago so went for ducks. this morning saw quite a few ducks flying. Many or most were blacks. 2 red heads, and others far away I couldn’t really see. Sadly my bag was zero. Took new shooter out this am. We had shots... I hit one first shot and it dropped down but kept flying. Didn’t make it off the water real far but disappeared into the fog. No way to give chase. Other blunder this morn I had a pair land well within range. We both pulled up and my gun went click. My partners gun had a jamming issue of some sort. Ended the day having fun but not getting anything. Oh well. Tomorrow morning....
sodfather
Nice, I haven't seen hardly any black ducks this year. Last year was loaded. This year loaded with pintails. And those red heads are tough birds hard to hit.

Hooded mergansers are pretty but taste worse than dirt

BigVal
Some say by the bill color, very tough ID
sodfather
A Mallards speculum is blue And has a thing white line on the top and bottom edges. A black duck has no white line. Also the speculum is a deeper blue almost purple sometimes. Hen mallards bill is orange and black where a black duck bill is greenish yellow to olive green.
