NYS Boat Laws?

I bought a row bow to take the kids fishing.  If I don't put a motor on the boat and just row, do I still have to register it with the state?

No, not as far as I know, speaking as a fellow row boat owner.

I think it has to do with size. I had a dingy for my bot and had to register it.

If you ever want to have any type of motor on it and use it in any public waterway, you will need registration. Heres the link to the regulations....

Of course we need to wait for VJP's argument that permits for row boats are unconstitutional on the basis that George Washington used one to the cross the Delaware back in 1776.  If Georgie boy could row one without a permit, why can't we???
