You're only as fast as your slowest link but now a days you're stuff has to be ridiculously old not to support 100 Mbps. 10 Mbps was already ancient 20 years ago. I get similar results with my phone and iPad. Ive emailed them to my Spectrum rep ill see what he says

I emailed them and am waiting to hear what they say but this is pretty disappointing You need to make sure you are hardwired and nothing else is using the internet. It is supposedly only that fast if there is only 1 computer/device hardwired to the router. I did that and still got ridiculously low numbers and they basically told me to pound salt. Elmo
I'm thinking of making the switch from Optimum (Spectrum) to Verizon FIOS. Gigabit speed for 1/2 the cost.

Five Seasons
could be a bad line to the house. Really shouldn't have any splicing to your modem. I had my net flicker and become unreliable on and off last winter. then one day it stopped all together. A tree root had popped open the line and water got in. During the freeze thaw it corroded then eventually fubar. it may be painful, but spectrum does owe you a solution. just be persistent. The_Real_TCIII
Update: and I'm ashamed that I didnt think of this. Its the router my company placed between my laptop and the Spectrum router thats bottlenecking my speed. When I bypass it I get 100/10. Still a dog on WIFI though and im 2' from it
Five Seasons
yeah any vpn or firewall will do that. you are probably on 2ghz. if you have dual band try 5ghz or even better upgrade to 802.11e
