ID this bird

Saw this bird in a pond out near Lancaster today. Any idea what it is I'm a little thrown off.

Looks like a grebe of some sort...I'd have to google it to be more specific..

Bigval , I’m astounded at all the mergansers lately in como lake park.  I swore to sodfather and TC I saw loons.  Oops , I was corrected lol.  Neither taste like chicken either.

I wish someone would come up with a recipe to make mergies taste like chicken, or at least SOMETHING edible...The local rivers used to have lot s of woodies, blacks and mallards, which are all tasty ducks...The last few years all I seem to see are mergansers..

They are fun to shoot, but I don't shoot things anymore that I don't eat..My buddy shoots a couple now and then and feeds them to his beagles..They seem to think they taste pretty good..

Did you ever watch a cormorant take a dump ?

They just lean forward, head down and butt up ward, and   PATUUNG !  , they propel a big wad of fecal matter about 4 feet out behind them...They have a trajectory about like a 45-70...Amazing  !!
