G-Man
so sunday afterneoon after watching deer feed under an apple tree on the edge of my lawn . the youngest hunter in camp wanted to hunt off the deck of the house .i declined and said we would put up a stand 20 yards or so behind apple tree. ( camp rule have to be 65 to hunt off deck and 70 to hunt out of the hottub) while hanging the stand we kicked out a few deer that were bedding 30 yards behind apple tree. so stand was hung and he sat in it at 130 pm at 2 pm he missed a doe at 22 yards deflection off limb clean miss.. we convinced him deer would be back there so at 330 he went back in stand. at 5pm 5 doe and fawns came back in to apple from a standing cornfield. he gets another shot and hit a doe at about 30 yards. i get texts to help him track.. i told him to wait id be out at dark. another hunter in camp and him track doe 70 yards or so and blood has reduced to a drip. again i tell them to wait and come in and have dinner and we will look after. grudginly theu come in. we go out after dinner and can only advancd track anoither 15 yards or so. i call it off and tell him ill look in am in better light. i look for 2 hpurs next morning and cant advance blood and limit body serch area to about a 5 acre block. no luck. at 9 am i get a call from the oldest hunter in camp whos 70 and has bad knees so i go help him look for doe he just shot.. tons of blood and deer turns away from a deep ravine and we find it next to atv trail oly 80 yards or so from his stand. i gut it for him and we get it out and up to the barn to hang.. hes attaching his tag and im inside getting cleaned up. he came in and said we ripped a big tear in hide when we dragged it ovet a log i broke a limb off of to get it to trail... so i go out and look and its not from a log but from the young bow hunters shot the evening before.. !!!!! the deer was walking normal and the way it lay and way we rolled it to gut it we never saw wound nor did he from his stand.! so. the mystery of the wounded doe is solved amd ill let the veteren hunter teach the young boy how to shoot!! lol
