No, they tend to fly, rather than walk on the ground.

I was bow hunting one year, heard the unmistakable sound of an approaching deer so I stood up, clipped on the release and got ready...it was a pileated woodpecker walking along the hedgerow

They are so cool .we had one going to town on our old dead tree out back it was cool to see
