deer slayer 3

Recommended Posts

I have been a long time fan of the Deerslayer, and own two Model 37s. I hope the new Ithaca co. does well, but I have a tough time seeing where slug guns as such fit into things today. Here in NY almost all counties are switching to rifles, and most any centerfire deer rifle will have much less recoil and much better accuracy than a rifled slug gun can.

I kind of wonder if that 200 yard claim isn't when machine shot. Frankly, I wouldn't expect that just any hunter could make it perform that well. Even though that's what they are trying to imply. What the gun is capable of and what the average guy can make it do probably are two entirely different things.

The guy was very generous in the way he measured the group sizes.  If you hunt with a lead sled on a windless day, I'd say you could hit a deer at 200 yards with it.  I couldn't help but notice they fired 9 shots at a target with no back stop too.  I sure hope they knew what was beyond that target.

There was a stand of woods and an open field, you can see it in the video.
