was talking to a fellow hunter and he told me his friend had trail camera pictures of a mountian lion on ogden rd glen spey... its funny how when you ask dec they dont deny or confirm the presents of the eastern mountian lion.... over the last couple years i have heard from more people seeing "big cats" all around the southern tier of new york

that link must have been added recently because a while ago i was on thier website and there was only the fact sheet....

regaurdless of what the dec tells us there are to many people seeing these "Big CATS" in all differnt areas.... maybe they should take the extra money from the license hike over the past years and take a better look in to it....

Steve, dont forget that anytime anyone has had "proof" it has been proven to be something other than a ML. Ive seen pics of dogs, house cats, bears and bobcats trying to be presented as proof of a ML. With the thousands of trail cams out in the woods every day of the year, all through the state, you would have to think that pics of them wouldnt be tough to get if they were actually here. You can find lots of trailcam pics and other evidence of them out west, where they actually live. The only time I have seen evidence was someone had pictures of tracks made by the one that passed through and was killed in CT, but that wasnt brought forward until after the cat was hit by a car. I would absolutely love to see actual proof of a ML in NY that can be verified.

thats an awesome question.... what would happen?

Technically they arent here...so technically there is no season for them...Sort of falls in that Gray area. I'm sure no matter what the circumstances, the hunter would be in the wrong for doing so, unless self defense, or if said cat was attacking livestock.

If I ever see one in NY I will shoot it and take millions of pics showing it was in NY, etc. Then I would get it mounted and cancel my plans to go out west to get one. I dont believe there are any here except for one released from captivity.

these pics were sent to me via mobile last hunting season. supposedly about 4 miles from my hunting grounds.(ellisburg area)

Look about half way down the page, that pic was taken on a porch in Colorado

You can do a Google image search for "mountain lion on porch" and its the 5th or 6th result.

I think if I saw a lion in NY while hunting I would shoot it and call all the news stations just to prove that they are here. Then obviously deal with the consequences....which shouldn't be that bad, maybe only a fine of a few hundred bucks.

Actually, the "Eastern Cougar" was determined to be extinct, thus de-listing it from the endangered species status.

http://en.wikipedia..../Eastern_Cougar

http://www.nytimes.c...h/03cougar.html

Not in NY state, according to this page:

"The Eastern cougar, or mountain lion, is listed as an endangered species in New York."

http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/6974.html

Then you have this page somewhat contradicting it:

http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/6974.html
