New Here with motives

Hello all,

New here , What I mean by motives. Joined hoping to find someone that would be interested in taking some diy hunts out of state and sharing expenses. Have alot of friends, some hunt some dont. The ones that do have no money or time..So going on a hunt out of state is no fun without someone.

Little bit about myself.

married 16 yrs

2 girls 9 and 15

self employed

39 yrs old

brockport area

I am not well to do, but have enough to take a trip or 2 per year. would prefer to drive instead of flying..

things i want to do.

bear hunt

caribou

muleys

antelope

elk

normal stuff...either diy or semi guided

dream hunt grizzly/brown bear

of course africa

anyone interested in doing something let me know. wouldd love to set up for 2012

You came to the right place!

Not that your looking for advice, but...............what's up first?

I'd say Wyoming for antelope & mule deer. Toss in some prairie dogs & coyotes. Hunt BLM for 'lope and a ranch for deer. Stay in motel and shoot PD & 'yotes behind motel. <grin>

Drive out and haul all the stuff you want. Have fun and get some pics!!

I'd be glad to help however I can.

I went on my first "big time" out of state hunt in '89 ( Alaska float hunt for moose and caribou) and over the next 20 years I was fortunate to make a number of other hunts across the western US and Canada.

Now for reasons both physical and financial, I am no longer able to do the hunts to the extent I did back then, although I ain't dead YET, and may have a hunt or two left in me.

I will gladly share any info on the hunts that I was fortunate enough to do.

Lawdwaz suggestion of a pronghorn/mulie hunt is a good start. It can still be done without hitting the lottery, as long as you understand that you will be mainly hunting representative animals, not the monsters that they show on the TV hunting shows...

That tends to cost a lot more $$$$..

yeah that was kinda my first thought,,have been doing a lot of research on different states..Think I am looking to go to Wyoming for first hunt trip..If I am reading it right its one of the few states you can fit in a combo hunt.

I am not a trophy hunter. I am a in it for the experience, the challenge, and the meat..family loves wild game. dont get me wrong trophy would be nice. But a trophy is measured by more than size...

welcome I would love to do those type of things but at 70 (age), retired on fixed income I have the means to just hunt local state areas etc.

Yes, a tresspass fee per day. Usually a minimum of 3 days or just a lump sum.

I can just about promise you that ANY DIY hunt will be more memorable than outfitted/guided hunt.

I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of a friends father and included on a few hunts with them, starting in Dec 1982 with a road trip to the Great State of Texas. What a blast! Then in1985 we went to Wyoming on a antelope/mule deer combo. BAM, another blast! We did a horseback hunt into the Moose River Plains of the Adirondacks in 1987, IIRC. That was more work than you could ever imagine and like a lot of hunts more of a camping trip then a hunt!

A bunch more hunts since those like...... Alaska, Wyoming, Alabama (3 times) Colorado (4-5 times) Pennsylvania (40-50?!?!) Saskatchewan & Quebec.

Lived in Texas for 5 years..Tried state land down there in east texas. What a nightmare, 100 people with high power rifles within a very small area. Also have hunted in San Angelo. Have a friend that lives there. Took a avg buck with bow few years ago. Actually planning on moving back there in couple years, tis my favorite place. I went to pavillion richer lodge in quebec couple years ago. My buddy took a nice bear, I seen a couple moose and one bear that i chose not to shoot, was to small. Other than that hunted in NY most of my life.

What can you tell me about life in San Angelo? I have a recruiter that tried to get me to move there and I was afraid there would be more hunting for me, so I passed for the time being.

Well San Angelo is a nice place. NOT VERY BIG 80,000 PEOPLE GIVE OR TAKE.

actually a boomomg place lots of construction. there is not much around it, approx 200mi from dallas/ft.worth,200mi from austin and san antonio.There are not many hogs in the general vicinity. The deer are massive and there is loads of them. Not to far you can see antelope, mule deer, javelina. One night driving from my friends place into san angelo we seen over 100 deer and its olny 22mi. Its in tom green county that is a 5 deer county. you have to have 10.1 acres to be able to hunt. stupid law but thats the way it is.property taxes are cheap. housing In my opinion is a little pricey, but by time you figure in th lower taxes, its still cheaper than here. I would reccomend looking into christoval. excellent school district, beautiful area , and only 25 mi from san angelo/. hour south is sonora another awesome place, lots of exotics. hope this helped.
