I'm not sure on the piece, but my mom lived in Piffard for a few years when I was a kid. It is a shotgun area. Some nice deer down there, lots of farm land. I'm going to have to look and see what land was opened up. I'm guessing one of the big farms must have handed land over to the state rather than have it get developed. It's not too far from Geneseo.

I lived in Piffard for a couple years when I was a kid . My Grandfather and other relatives lived in Piffard also . Piffard is between Geneseo and Greigsville . I believe Grow lived in Piffard many years ago .

There is a large fenced in area that used to be Lucidol Chemical . I have seen many deer inside that fenced area .

The Abby Monestary is on River Road in Piffard and there are usually deer near the road and you have to be careful when driving there .

There is a Club ( can't think of the name of it ) on River Road in the town of Leicester . It's between Cuylerville and Retsof . I believe there is a waiting list to join . There is an initial fee to join and then you have to do 2 jobs a year at the club or pay a fee . They also give you Raffle tickets to sell . You either sell them or buy them yourself . It's the only one I know of in the area .

Any idea what the fees / dues are?

At one time they were about $250 Initiation Fee and $50 each time you didn't do a work project . I think there were 2 work projects the 1st year plus $50 in Raffle Tickets to sell . I don't recall how many acres of club hunting land there are . I believe most of the members are gun hunters and several only hunt opening day / week .

Wow...Piffard...that brings back memories...my ole stomping grounds...I had no idea there was any state land there....I know that we all walked the rail road bed from there to just about Avon and there to Mt Morris...but heard when the chem plant switched hands it was fenced off....many snowmobiling trips on that...and the "secret Pond" was a favorite hang out....a lot of squirrel hunting on those tracks as welllived there seven years before getting married and thenwe moved back 1 1/2 yrs after we got married for a couple of years...ran the dinner there for several years

Yep sure is a small world...you and I seem to have landed in a few of the same places...seeing the ole mans family was from Groveland and I went to Geneseo for about a year....The old Holcomb(sp) school after my Mother passed.... Then Orlando...before that I grew up in Dansville...The old Holcomb(sp) school

I know Piffard, too. Spent many a night there while in high school. Interest in what land opened up there. I may call the DEC about it. There were always deer in and around the fenced in chem plant.

The York Sportsmen club leases land either from or bordering the monestary. Great deer there...but in general, I find the clubs to be a waste of time and money unless you use the shooting grounds. I've spoken to some of the members and I just kind of laugh at the general level of hunting knowledge - and I'm not expert. Seems very much like a social club with more politics than the presidential election.

I also heard of amother club with an Indian type name down River Road from the Abbey. Anyone have a clue. The state forrest I was talking about is called Lectworth State Park, I'm not sure if its opened for hunting.

Sheesh ----- I posted it above . Here it is again .
