If you look up master tracker and ... Brown you should find the title. He learned from an old Indian fellow that used to play tricks on him and his buddy. The book describes tracking practices very well too.

Really, that sounds really cool.  I'm gonna try to Google it ; is it an old book or comtemporary??  Sounds like a great resource

It's by Tom Brown i think. He ran a tracking school as well. It is a couple decades old.

Yes I've done this. Back when I was younger and more flexible. It does work in the right situation. Usually leaves a good drain hole in deer for blood trail. As for water a bilge pump run off a lawn mower battery will keep most of the water out.

Do you remember how deep you dug your hole ?  Also, where did you choose to dig, like on high ground ?

I got 'em from behind once, but never from below.

Hole was about 3 foot deep at edge of a field which had a ridge running into corner of it. Deer trail ran right along ridge. Only killed one doe and a 4 pt there but it worked
