Going striper fishing for the first time tomorrow.

Buddy called and asked if I wanted to go.  Ummmm....YA.  He caught a couple 35"ers on Friday. Hopefully we'll hook into some big ones.

Good luck  !!..  The first time I fished for stripers was from the destroyer piers at the Naval Base in Newport, RI., in the spring of 1971....

Is that where YOU are fishing  ??

Going out of Albany I believe, or maybe a little south.

sorry to get off topic, Hey Pygmy, my brother was on a destroyer stationed in Newport in the early 70's. Wonder what ship you were on?

I was on the USS Moale DD-693,  and we were home ported in NY, first at Brooklyn Navy Yards and later at Fort Schuyler, Bronx... However, we spent a couple of months a year in Newport, tied up alongside the Destroyer tender Puget Sound, receiving repair and maintenance work from them that we could not do ourselves.. I loved Newport...Lots of good fishing right on base.....

Awesome!  I’ve only gone once and it was a charter in Cape Cod.  We caught 5 like this! Absolute blast.  The fillets were delicious too! Have fun!

Well, we fished just below the dam in Troy.  Then a little north of the patroon island Bridge.  Didn't get a single striper hit.  

Oh well, had a good time and it was a beautiful day.

I heard of a few Dandy ones being taken further down by Henry Hudson Park. I would have thought the water warming up you would have hammered them
