Hemlock-Canadice State Forest

[Bolt action]

Has anyone hunted this state land for deer? I was down that way in Springwater over the weekend and saw the state forest signs. I've small game hunted down there and kayak fished both lakes, but have never pursued deer. Seems like good habitat.

I have tried Hemlock a few times in the past, tons of sign.

The challenge is access and deer are always up on the ridge and spot you coming.

Lots of deer in the area. I drive through every day! Never hunted it though.

I’ve hunted there it’s a nice place to get on a track and do some tracking. I did with my MZ. I didn’t get a deer but had fun and that’s what matters. lots of DMP in 8n.

Is there a ton of pressure there? I've got to think that place gets pounded during gun season. The access I have to private land may only have another year or two before it changes, so I'm looking for a public area to hold me over until I get a place of my own.

I don’t I went there during the MZ season and had the place almost to myself.

The easy access areas can get hit but the terrain can keep the pressure localized. If you have a boat, that is the way to get to the out of the way places around the lakes.

Agreed, if you can come in through the south end get in on the west bank via boat, you will have better chance as you will be downwind
