  1. Monday afternoon sit was anything but boring, with the number of deer still grazing on food sources. Good number of young ones rising up the ladder. Two bucks entered, minimus the head gear pushing doe around the field. Maybe find a shed or two in the future. This time of year can give a good assessment of the deer herd. The deer have settled down a lot. Enjoy being out to get sort of a handle on things.

  2. Brought my 8 yr old daughter out at 3 for her first hunt, she made it till 4:30 and we saw one small one. She snored for an hour. Tons of deer on drive home! She made me stop every time. My last hunt of the season will be in the morning. Got another family lined up if I can connect on a doe or buck with my reg season tag.

  4. I used to enjoy "The Last Alaskans". The first few seasons they were real sourdoughs who knew what they were doing, Really though, even they didnt live year round off the land. They had summer jobs and homes. The show only showed the fall/winter lifestyle on their trapline. they brought staples, but depended on caribou/moose for meat, and several seasons some of them didnt get a moose and ended up needing to go out for the winter. Very tough to even come close to living off the land. Granted, living above the arctic circle is the harshest environment imaginable in my line of thought. Probably the most limiting factor in the lower 48 is living within game laws. I love reading of early pioneer/ settlers in Alaska, or most anywhere. I have read quite a few times that a lot more wanna be sourdoughs and just plain old sourdoughs just disappeared over the winter, starving in thier cabin or freezing to a stump. illness, injuries, etc. with little doubt that contrary to Disney line of though, more than a few burials were inside a wolfs scat pile.

  5. My mom chops up some smoked polish sausage for on top when she bakes it in the oven. My wife uses the same recipe, but substitutes the venison for the beef. Most often she takes a shortcut, and just mixes everything else together underneath, rather that rolling up the stuffing into the cabbage. Not only is that easier to make that way, but it’s also easier to eat, and my preference. My mom never takes that shortcut, nor would I ever suggest that she does. She’s pretty set in her ways, and it’s always very good.

  6. I do not do a whole lot of sitting, but if I were to be out in real cold conditions and sitting for long periods in a blind situation, the Refidgiwear coveralls would be my choice of what to wear. Al

  7. I think The Last Alaskans was the only realistic “wilderness” show. The others- Last Frontier, Mountain Men, and other such shows are pretty much staged.
