  1. So, have you heard any more detail on what a "Hunter Authorization Card" is, and what it does, or what the purpose of it is?
  2. So, it sounds like you are saying that it is stupid to try to do anything. The vote doesn't work. The people don't care. So why bother doing anything....right? Hey, who knows, maybe you're right.

    Ticks

Isn't there a special breed of tick that carries the lyme disease? I've always seen it described as kind of tiny and not all that easy to spot. I'm not sure that some of those bigger ones on deer are really the lyme carrying culprits. Anybody know if there are only certain kinds of ticks involved with lyme disease or are they all capable of transmitting the disease?
  4. I remember seeing where a guy fed his excess pumpkins to his sheep, and they ate them right down. I have a feeling that deer might go for them too. Is it the best thing to put in for a food plot? ..... probably not.
  5. We called this camp the "Dark Woods" camp. This picture is taken from what we call "the open woods". looking down into the ravine with a rather large area of old-growth hemlocks that keep the area perpetually shaded ..... hence the name "Dark Woods" The camp is still standing and in fairly good shape, but we haven't used it as a hunting camp in quite a few years. We used that area for a good many years before we built the cabin, and even back then, it was called "The Dark Woods Camp".
  6. Was there any clue as to what done him in? It is good that you were the one to find him, but really sad that you couldn't have taken him during hunting season.
  7. Can both halves be on the same premises as long as they are disassembled?

    Iowa CWD

Is this a first for them?
  9. I see that as a viable solution while you try to sell it to somebody that lives in a normal state where the government is a bit more reasonable. But frankly unless I was willing to get rid of it, I have no use for a gun that I am afraid to actually use. But you're right, there are obviously alternatives to registration.
  10. Can you imagine how much money is hanging there?
  11. There are other options? I wasn't aware of that. I thought this was a done deal of register now or become a felon.
  12. I am very glad that I don't have to make that decision. I am basically a law abiding sort for the most part, and when people start flashing that big "felony" word around, that does tend to get my attention. I don't think I would fare well in prison or with a criminal record, or with the confiscation of all of my guns. Even if the possibility of conviction is slight, I probably would comply and as they say, "live to fight again another day". I choose my battles carefully ..... lol.
  13. While I will admit that I have no idea what a "Hunter Authorization Card" is or what it's purpose really is, I am always in awe every time I read about all these special restrictions that NYC has come up with. It's like a completely different country down there .... lol. And for the citizens of the rest of the state, all I can say is watch these NYC encroachments very closely because our elected officials are trying very hard to roll all these ridiculous restrictions onto the rest of us.
  14. The most important thing to a politician is getting re-elected. That transcends even their ideology and principles. That's what makes the election this fall so important. Our state legislators have made an assumption that the gun lobby is too weak to be a credible threat to their employment ...... Hence the support and votes for the Safe Act and the direct in-your-face challenge to the gun owners. What do you think would be the attitude toward gun legislation in the future if all of a sudden they saw a significant number of their pro-Safe Act buddies come up missing after the election. We could send a message that would last for decades. Of course the other side of the coin exists too ..... What do you think the attitude toward gun legislation would be if all these politicians that voted for the act go absolutely unpunished. That will mean that the gun lobby is neutered and an open season on the 2nd Amendment can be declared..... guaranteed. We can do all the civil disobedience that we want, and the politicians who create these anti-gun laws will continue to do so without risk. The only risk is taken by the gun owner with that slam-dunk confession to a felony sitting in his closet.

    Ticks

Where do I buy this Permethrin? Does it go under some other brand name? Would it be in a drug store or sporting goods store? How about Walmarts? Are these ticks active all year around, or just during warm weather months?
  16. That is because you are leaving giant gaps in your logic. You are telling me that government is an evil thing that is completely out of control, as in: "Doc, someday you will see all of these "resources" have already been corrupted to the point of being tools of the government used for oppression." Now if you really do believe that, I don't see any alternative left to you but armed revolt. So which is it? Are you for working within the system that you claim is corrupted beyond actual use, or are you for trashing what we have, crossing your fingers and hoping for some miracle that restores a more representative and just government. I don't know maybe there is some third alternative that you are keeping secret, but I don't see it in anything that you have said so far.
  17. I guess I take a little more realistic view of things. I'm kind of a "nuts and bolts" guy. I can listen to all the doom and gloom of how things are, but at some point, I like to hear about what we want and exactly how we are going to get there. So my simple question for those of the Rambo persuasion is how do you get from where we are to where you want to be? With things as hopelessly broken as we often hear, the only direction left is through armed insurrection. So again, back to the nuts and bolts of the situation, which one of the militia groups do you trust to make it all nice again? And why would you trust any of them anymore than the supposed leaders that we have now? And how do you know that the revolutionary talk that they are pedaling is for true positive change vs. using revolution as a self-serving tool to set up their own version of total power and corruption. That's kind of the first thing that runs through my mind whenever I hear all this falling sky talk .... "What's their angle"? That takes a whole lot of trust to throw the baby out with the bathwater and place the future of the country in the hands of a few crazy revolutionaries. After all, we saw how well that all worked in Cuba....lol.
  18. Yeah, you're right. I guess we do spend too much time trying to psychoanalyze every little thing that a kid eventually gets faced with. It has been such a long time since I was a kid, that I can't even recall my reactions to these kinds of scenes .... lol. Like I said, I never was real great at handling these kinds of things with kids. Do it with humor? ...... That probably would be my approach too......lol.
  19. I have never seen a "poor" NYS legislator, so I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time worrying about whether their pay and other perks are depriving them of anything.....lol. They're doing just fine.
  20. Lol .... that was quite a stretch. I mistakenly thought you actually had something worthwhile on the subject that you were trying to say.
  21. But they do such a fine job. Imagine all the work that goes into fleecing taxpayers out of their hard-earned bucks. See, during those other 6 months when they are not actually working, they are busily working on schemes to raise taxes, increase frivolous spending and figuring how to screw with your freedoms. Don't tell me these people don't work very hard at their job. It takes a lot of effort to screw people over the way they do. And they're damned good at it!
  22. Lol ..... I used to buy a whole bow for that price, and a damned nice one too. Good thing we are headed for a cashless society, or we would be needing a wheelbarrow to carry our money just for shopping. It's getting so that the maintenance on these bows is costing a pretty hefty percentage of the purchase price. That price sounds a little high. Not a lot, but a little. It's not a cheap thing to do anymore.
  23. Instead of talking about the deer "jumping the string", I guess it would be the deer "jumping the spear".
  24. The candy is supposed to be for the kids???? Oh-oh .... My bad!
