  1. I hate career politicians as much as the next guy, but if you really liked what a candidate stood for and the work he did in his previous term, why would you not vote for him again? Especially is the alternative is someone whom you really do not like. I'm just curious...
  2. Humor aside, the reason why this went through so quickly was because it had been already drafted (or at least very close) and waiting for an opportunity like the recent tragedies to gain the support needed to pass. I hate to put it in those terms, but it is true.
  3. What are you talking about? When did I lump everyone who owns a gun (myself included) into this category? Its irresponsible or illegal owners like the ones involved with this story who give everyone a bad reputation. But it still gives gun owners bad press. Anti's see this and they don't think about the responsible legal owners, they think about guns in their schools.
  4. I believe the new legislation is only for semi-autos. If your level action was legal before, it should still be legal.
  5. More good publicity for gun owners.... http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news%2Flocal%2Fnew_york&id=8957920
  6. Buying a stock doesn't require a background check or to show ID (at least if you buy it out of state). Who is to say when you bought it?
  7. Sucks that a pistol with a muzzle break (many competition pistols have this added) is now illegal if it takes a magazine.
  8. Yes. I've heard the bill is already through the Senate.
  9. Nothing will prevent gun violence other than removing all guns everywhere (which is impossible, and before I get a thousand people wanting to hang me, it is not something I am advocating). I don't agree with some parts of this new law. I think it is completely over reactive to classify something as (buzzword) an "assault weapon" just for having a pistol grip. I completely agree with the mental health check. The ammo check is annoying, but hey, if down the line in flags a couple of nut jobs, I'm OK with browsing the store for an extra 15 minutes while my background check goes through. The magazine downsize from 10 to 7 was just trivial and just a ploy for Cuomo to say we have the most restrictive law in the country. As for what will happen in the future, that all depends on who is in power. If enough people care about this issue and pressure their politicians, the law can be changed or repealed. We will see next year how the state really feels on this issue when the Governor is up for reelection. Personally, I'm hoping someone will challenge parts of the law in court. Agree or disagree, this is what our elected officials voted for. I am all for discussions on how to change the law legally.
  10. How do you know if someone is still a "law abiding citizen" if you don't check every time they purchase a gun?
  11. Except Samuel Adams was talking about independence from England and was trying to rally people to back the revolution in that speech he gave in 1776. I guess context should never get in the way of a good sound bite. Unlike the colonists, you have representation. You just don't like how they voted.
  12. I have better things to do than waste half my day going back and forth with your lunacy. Don't worry, I'm sure 13BVET or the 15 year old will congratulate you for winning. I'll rest easy remembering your own self descriptive words, "I'm a dying breed."
  13. We are talking about post-Obama here, why are you going back to the early 1990s?
  14. Except it would have to be the majority today, also, or it would have been abolished somewhere else down the timeline. Don't know much about logic either, do you?
  15. Yes, I'm very intellectually intimidated by a person who just posted that if we were a true democracy, slavery would still legal in the United States.
  16. No one has taken a single gun from you on the state level, and we have the strictest rules in the Union, so I was never wrong to begin with.
  17. You are perfectly right, I'm sure there are tens of thousands that agree, in a field of millions.
  18. Nothing has changed at the Federal level, which is what that post was addressing. I already addressed this earlier in the thread, I don't feel like doing so again.
  19. The word "Democracy" is never mentioned in my post. And the highlighted section is all I ever need to know about you.
  20. Of course I have. I'm not crazy about having to register my long arms in the city, but I still obey the law. If they had proposed a ban of semi-automatic rifles, I would have been very upset and I would have made some calls and sent some letters. But they didn't. The magazine size thing is silly (3 rounds difference...really?), but you can still possess the same 10 round magazines you had before. I may not love everything else, but at least I can see some potential benefits coming from it.
  21. Yeah...so, when you add "ing" to the end of a word, you almost always drop the "e" (ie. voting, driving) I may be an (<--an, not a) idiot, but at least I am a literate idiot. What's your excuse?
  22. I think a lot of people on this website confuse "stupid" with "disagrees with my views".
  23. Because these are the representatives that the majority of voters elected. If that changes, the law will be repealed in a couple of years. And Cuomo may aspire to be president one day, but it is very, very unlikely. He is too radical for a national nomination.
