  1. Switched spots at 3. Snuck into island stand. Wasn't in the stand five minutes and shooter pops out to a bleat call. Fed in field for five minutes. Before heading for a scrape in the island. Pulled off a tricky shot. Managed to just clip both lungs. More in harvest thread.
  2. 1c Midday sit on the edge of bedding area. Hoping the tremendous noise I just heard wasn't hikers. scent Dragged in, estrus wick out. Haven't used scents in two years. Trying to get something going my way.
  3. She is dead somewhere. Shot this girl last week. Didn't get pass through. Lost blood as it was pooling in chest. Walked passed her twice before I noticed she crawled in a brushpile to hide/expire. They really can disappear. Stay on it. First sit in this new set, on edge of doe bedding area. Wind is perfect, trying to catch one scentchecking
  4. A 50lb pound box of 2" roofing nails accidentally spilt on the trail and accidentally spray painted brown may have the desired effect
  5. Because I'm one of those Long Island trophy hunters, that never shoots does!!! Just kidding, didn't mean to come off that way. Very grateful for the kill, it just seems I have an uncanny ability to pick the wrong stand or set up by 20-30 yards. Here she lays.
  6. 1c. Saw two bucks at last light last night two far for a shot. Then Two 8ptrs were squaring each other up this am at first light. Also too far for a shot. Shot a a doe this morning because I was frustrated. Packaged and in the fridge. Tarsal gland is hanging from my pull up rope. Could hear a mouse fart. Hoping luck changes a bit. Looking at a fresh scrape.
  7. They may be here but I sure don't see them. Need to start sneaking on to property I don't have permission and restricted areas
  8. Is the time stamp correct??? I see a blonde girl with a pony tail in rain boots.... 82% sure
  9. My second sit of year in 1c, didn't see a deer first sit, just bumped six bedded deer, hoping they come back and all be does. I'm purposely hunting a new "management" property that they want us shooting anything that moves. Staying away from what I think are my best spots for bucks until after the 15th. Really want to knock two does out of here before then
  10. Great first hunt!! Keep at it! A range finder will surely help. At least you know you have a good public spot
  11. Possibly the dumbest idea I've ever heard. All settled hoping a buck doesn't come by.....lets goo!!!
  12. Looks like the Doe massacre season will be a bust down here. First six days don't seem so huntable. Well see
  13. 100gr rage hypodermics. Bloodbath with those last season
  14. To say that hunters on the island haven't done their job is ridiculous. If you hunt here you know that the smart deer stay in tiny residential woodlots were you can't legally hunt/get permission or in small town and county parks where no hunting is allowed. And if there not in those areas their being pressured...hard. Hikers, Bikers, joggers, atvs, trespassers, hipsters, and hunters. The most productive thing that could be done at this point is to set up donation trucks in the Eastern five towns. I could shoot a doe almost every hunt but with work and every day living who has time to butcher two or three deer a week? And then what am I doing with the meat? I already give away two-three deer to people a year and then start donating to butcher program but that's so far out of my way. Saving 2 or 3 deer for me and mine. Pretty hard to control a herd that is most times not hunt able. Where I hunt bucks are majorly nocturnal from so much pressure so I hardly get a buck anyway.
  15. Feel free to pm where in Tennessee. Going down there in September and would like to keep my eyes open for real estate if I have the time. Want to get the hell out of ny. Looking for a quiet country town not far from Nashville with good schools.
  16. Seems like an easy way to generate revenue with no real loss besides three or four moose a year. Great for a bankrupt state that's already exhausted next years income. Think I'm low balling but 3 to 4 thousand applicants. 20 dollars per lottery.. 10-15 tags given out... Quick 60-80k in the till. Only 3-4 dead moose to show for it.
  17. Bowhunted last night nightmare getting to the stand in 24"++++ deer were yarded up. Not one seen from stand. Saw five walking through yards on my way out Headed out tomorrow with shotty and snowshoes for last licks
  18. Wait you don't need to reserve a spot for the last week??? Haven't hunt yet in January been so busy. But thinking about strapping on snow shoes one day this week...
  19. Trigger is adjustable. Think it's set to 5lbs or so from factory. Mines backed all the way down. Savages accutrigger is definitely better but American is very good for the money. Think I picked mine up for 349 or something like that. Wish they had them in lefty then. Going to probably sell mine for a lefty model. Hornady superformance 150gr sst seems to group the best out of my barrel. Though Winchester 150gr soft points also grouped well.
  20. Agreed. You would think the dec would have made a statement at this point. One way or another. Unless there announcing it as late at possible to quell backlash from antihunters.
  21. Coyotes don't exist on Long Island...until a picture was taken of one last year in the hamptons... No idea how it got here but it did. Is that a wolf? I have no idea. Could there be wolfs in northern nys? Or nw nys? Absolutely could be.
  22. I've had stands and cameras stolen before but never really thought someone would take a blind from a field that's in full view of the road. I checked the camera after I caught him hunting, swapped cards think the 9th and then this past Sunday it was gone. There's so few dec officers out here they don't have the time to play detective about some stolen shit, too busy dealing with baiters, fishing reg enforcement, etc
  23. The field is owned by a large entity who owns thousands of acres out here. Myself and one other person have exclusive rights on this 25 acre field and the strip of wood that borders field. Than its houses. I agree it's odd as well also because he sees the camera in October and then has the f*cking balls to hunt there first week of November. It's one thing to sneak in and hunt but another to steal someone's hard earned shit. Especially because this spot can only really be hunted effectively with blinds. Now that there gone I can't really hunt effectively here and Probably won't be allowed back here next year.
  24. Area is Bridgehampton. I usually hunt during the week, but this season have been too busy with work. Have only hunted less than ten times total. I'm pretty local, don't really think he is because the property is surrounded by multi-million dollar homes. The day in October I think he was just scouting, but he may sneak in from the houses behind the property. The blind was right next to that camera, the other blind was down a hundred yards or so and there was another camera pretty close.
  25. It is really sickening the bullsh*t that goes on on Long Island, and honestly I can't stomach it any more. I set up a brand new ground blind on a piece of property that is part of a hunting program on Nov. 9 with the intention of hunting it later in the season. Only myself and one other person have permission on this property. My buddy calls me up yesterday to tell me both of our blinds were stolen as well as both of our cameras. It totally sickens me that a hunter can live with himself stealing from fellow hunters, you are truly scum of the earth. Subsequently have photos of some low life trespassing and then hunting on our property on two different occasions. Not sure if the person realized his pictures were taken and that I will be looking for him. However I will be posting these pictures here as my buddy will be on other sites. Maybe someone will step forward with a who he is. I appreciate any info you may have. It's really disgusting what goes on within the Long Island hunting community. Despite what you may read, there's plenty of land out here to hunt. No need to trespass to kill a deer. I am more than a gracious person when it comes to pointing new hunters in the right direction, and if someone asked I would help them get a spot or two. Good luck out there! Sean
