Based on my opinion yes I think it was intentional, how is that judging someone ? You also made a statement based on your opinion is that judgung someone? I also happen to think your opinion is wrong sorry
-
Like you are guilty of the same thing you are bashing me for. How do you absolutely know that he "jerked the shot" ? You don't. I am making my opinion that it was an intentional B.S. shot because if he really was an ethical and humane hunter he would've waited for that pig to turn in a few seconds. The pig was not going anywhere so why wouldn't you wait for a better shot? That is my point.
-
And I guess you're a comedian... a bad one at that.
-
For anyone to say that they know that was not an intentional shot makes me laugh. If the person was trying to make a hard quartering away shot and not shoot an animal through the rear why wouldn't have just waited for the animal to turn a little more? No that was intentional. And again the excuses abound, amazing. Your logic has been that you would take this shot "only if I had to". Well by that logic this video goes against that also. Why couldn't that idiot just wait for a better shot ? Was that pig about to run off ? Didn't look that way to me. That pig was totally unaware and was not about to run off or walk out of the shot. So how can you justify this? Does this qualify as an "only if there was no other shot moment"? No not at all. Oh but you can tell he jerked the shot right? Please
-
That proves my point from the other thread. UNETHICAL ! What bothers me is all the so called hunters on this forum who make excuses for this type of shot. How many people claimed this shot kills just as quick as a heart shot? Well I guess not in this case. Go ahead and justify it now.

congrats on your baby ! SInce I travel from NC now I'll only get in about 12 days during rifle season in NY. Non resident permits being so expensive I decided to only hunt rifle. Maybe next year I'll get both bow and rifle. Then I'll come up a few more days earlier so I can get about 6 or 7 days of bow plus the 11 or 12 days of rifle. Gas prices aren't helping me out either.

Yeah unfortunately it's something that a lot of us have to deal withif we leave stands, blinds or cameras in the field private land or not. The area where I hunt is private but there is a ton of State land and DEP properties so even though I know most of the hunters in my area who are landowners I also know there will be hunters I don't know. For that reason I usually won't leave a blind or stand up too long before I hunt it. I'll slip in about a day or two before to set up. I always see other hunters gear in the woods on public land but I won't touch it just because I know I would want the same respect back. Doesn't always happen though.

Hey all you Long Island guys. I know how hard it is to find land to hunt on the Island since I'm a native L.I.'er myself. I grew up in East Meadow and went to Holy Trinity H.S. in Hicksville. Getting back to the reason for my post..... If anyone is interested in checking out a really nice area to bow hunt fire up your google earth and follow these directions: Take the L.I.E to the Manorville exit (forgot the number I wanna say 70 ? Not sure though) Make a right coming off the exit ramp go about 1/2 - 3/4 mile where the median starts in the middle of the road about 1/4 mile after that take the first left you can make across the highway that will be Hot Water st. It will turn into a dirt rd. take that dirt road for a mile or 2. I used to bow hunt on the right side. If you come to where there will be an intersection and a huge field turn around that was a private pheasant club property. There are dirt bike trails all through the woods which are great for getting to your spots quietly. There was a rumor that DEC was trying to take over that are but if they didn't it's not posted and can be hunted. Huge bucks out there also. Seen a monster on one of my last hunts there. If you have a GPS the coordinates for the turn off are 40*51'41.10" N by 72*46'07.55" W. I hope some of you guys find this useful and goodluck. It's a pretty big area so there is plenty to go around if you guys team up.

NY Doesnt Issue Non Resident Pistol Permits?

Well said my friend, Well said. -
How often do you clean your guns?
pawle76 replied to Elmo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I'm the same way once I've sighted in for the season I won't clean the barrel until the seasons over. I always wipe down my rifles after every day hunting. A rag with a little bit of Rem gun oil or WD40. Then I take a clean rag and wipe off the excess. If it was a snowy, rainy, or otherwise messy day I'll run a clean dry patch down the barrel but thats it. -
Wow ! Congrats Sam ! Job well done and continued good luck on the rest of your season !!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this ridiculous thread.
-
Yep, you got me. I know nothing about a deer's anatomy outside the heart, lungs, and liver. Again your logic is laughable
-
I totally agree with you and you stated the law exactly right. It doesn't matter what time of year it is feeding wild deer is illegal. Salt and mineral licks are illegal also.
-
I'm with you on this Doc. That's just the way I was taught to hunt.
-
So by your reasoning I am to assume that a femoral artery shot is just as effective as a heart shot and when aiming at a deer's ass I am trying to hit the femoral artery. I'm sorry I just don't understand the logic I'm reading here.
-
Look at the size of your target when shooting at the heart/lung area. If you miss you have a very good chance of still hitting something vital. Now look at the rear end of a deer. What is your target? Small, very small. If you are offf even a little bit you will wound that animal. That is an un ethical shot. I really didn't think I would have to explain that.
-
yeah that doesn't mean that's a good shot to take though.
-
Are you guys really arguing this ? Femoral artery ? Thats your target the femoral artery? What if you are off? Then you have a gut shot wounded animal running around. Or what if you hit the rump? All I have to say is WOW ! Ethics has everything to do with this don't kid yourselves.
-
Sorry but that is not an ethical shot no matter how you try and rationalize it.
-
I live in NC now and one thing I noticed down here is many of these southern gents do not field dress their deer. They'll take it back home hang the deer with a gambrel and they'll skin it and then start processing with the guts still inside. I guess thats ok if you process it yourself and immediately but that wouldn't work with me because my deer usually hang for a little while before I can get it to the butcher.

First off that butt out tool is a joke. My knife is my butt out tool. I've always cut around the bung hole just because thats how I was taught. I do know though that if another way works there's nothing wrong with that. I learned the hard way on how to take out the milk sac on a doe with out spoiling hind quarter meat with sour milk. I did learn though.

This is how NY needs to handle poachers!
pawle76 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in General Hunting
My Dad took me hunting on opening day archery which was my first time hunting I think it was 1990-'91 season. We left our house on Long Island around 3:30-4:00 am and got up to where we hunt got into our hunting gear grabbed our bows and started into the woods. It was just getting light my Dad was 10 yards in front of me and there was a ravine down to our left. I thought I heard something snap behind us down in the ravine so I stopped and looked and here came a doe with a little 4 ptr on her tail and then this huge rack was behind him. They weren't running but they were walking fast almost at a trot. My Dad by this time had turned to look too and then we looked at each other with our jaws hitting the ground. I tried hitting the grunt tube to get them to stop but it seemed to make them walk even faster. So we watched that rack bobbin and weavin through the woods in awe. Just about the time we lost sight of it a couple of seconds went by and then BOOM ! My Dad and I looked at each other and said no F' ing Way ! We walked towards the shot and here's this Moron climbing out of his treestand with a rifle over his shoulder and a bow. We started for him and when he saw us he tried to hide his rifle behind a stone wall. My Dad went right to the wall and picked up his rifle. At our feet layed the biggest buck we have ever seen in the woods. My Dad and I held this guy until the Trooper came and arrested him. It took all of us to get the deer in the troopers trunk. We asked the DEC for the antlers of the buck but they had already got rid of it for study. What a deer. That guy still has a house close to where we hunt but he doesn't come up there during hunting season. What a strange way to begin my hunting experiences. We got a reward for our effort from TIPS. I also learned that poaching is wrong and potentially dangerous. We could've been shot by that idiot since we had no orange on. -
Waiting is not hunting ? If you're in a treestand you are waiting. Hence people who hunt out of treestands are not hunters. That's exactly what you said.

I like your Deer camps guys ! Here's my "base camp"
