    Kill !

Good Luck all! Kill a big one ! And Be Safe !
  2. Don't forget your saftey harness gents !!!! Good Luck to all !! Kill a Big One !!
  3. beautiful buck ! Good thing pistolp didn't listen to certain people on this forum and make knife handles out of him ! By the way that's my vote for most ridiculous post/idea of the year. Congrats pistolp ! I had a conversation with a fellow bowhunter down here in NC a few days ago and he was asking me how the hunting was where I grew up on Long Island. He said he would imagine the deer on L.I. were the size of dogs of course I laughed because the deer in NC are actually the size of dogs(most anyway). So to show him what type of deer that can be found on LI I printed a copy of your buck. Let's just say his jaw is probably still on the ground.
  4. Ok getting back to the topic and away from saftey issues. I think you raise a good point. I could hear the arrow and broadhead approaching the target each time. Sounded like a hissing sound. So I'm pretty sure a deer can. I would even say that each broadhead sounded louder or softer. I think the deer hear both the string and then the arrow/broadhead tracking towards them. I also think that an already alerted or "spooked" deer is more likely to "jump the string" than a relaxed animal.
  5. Books? Cell Phones? No I'll be hunting/napping. Cell phone stays on the bottom of my pack for an emergency(not that it would help no service where I hunt). I'm guilty of something else while in the woods. Sleeping. When I read a book it makes me fall asleep so that would make it even worse. I know I'm not the only one who dozes off while posted. It never fails so I just let it happen. There's been more than once when I dozed off only to get the sensation of being watched so I open an eye and there's a deer staring at me close enough to spit at. I used to make fun of my Dad for doing this and now I'm guilty of it. I can't help it the woods are a very relaxing place for me. Unless I'm seeing deer and such.
  6. Good points Jen. As for the tanning process most taxidermists don't want to be bothered either. They send it out to be done. Another reason for costs being so high.
  7. Those are some really nice pics ! I wish I had deer in my yard to look at and photograph. You must really enjoy that. I know I would.
  8. All great suggestions, but I would throw the .338 Marlin Express or .308 Marlin Express in the ring also. These are great guns and are very durable. The price is very affordable. The .338 MX or MXLR ballistically is very similar to a .30-06. This would take any game found in N.America. If you want something a little lighter the .308MX is a good choice. I have to suggest the 336c Marlin in .35 Rem. also.
  9. Deer City will show other quick hunts from other places during their show sometimes. We'll see I guess
  10. Yeah I assume thats the one. That's the one that was on today at 2 pm. I think thats the show sits in trees was talking about.
  11. I just checked the guide it's on again this friday.
  12. that does suck. reminds me of finding ducks with those 6pack can plastic thingy around their heads. Thats why I always cut them before throwing them out.
  13. wow thats pretty interesting. I agree I've never seen a dead roadkill coyote not to mention 3. Exit 25 - 17 is a pretty large area though.
  14. I carry a Taurus Millenium PT 145 Pro and I never had problems with it. As for the Judge it's a great revolver. Very versatile. They make some really cool 410 personal defense shells for that gun.
  15. I think during bow I would take him.
  16. Awesome video and a nice buck too ! What area of NY is that?
  17. Hey Gunner where in Greene county do you hunt ?

    Stateland

That reminds me, one of the places I hunt in Ulster county has a farm next to it with some cows. The owner didn't want anyone taking a shot at her prized heffers so she spray painted the word "COW" on them in blaze orange. I got a chuckle out of that the first time I saw one in the field. It works though.

    Shaving

I'm a beard and stache for hunting guy also. I started growing mine end of Aug. Now like Doc I just trim it every week or so to keep it looking somewhat clean. I grow it for keeping my face warm not so much for camo. After hunting season and when I get tired of tasting my soup the day after I ate it I'll hack it off.
