  1. Lol they make fun of me knowing I can't touch them and this was about 30 yds away too. I heard them chuckling.... Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
  2. These two 8 pts in my BIL'S backyard in East Norwich on LI. They usually come with a doe. There have been many sightings in my area. Crazy I tell ya! Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
  3. Leftfield, I too had limited experience with firearms so I did what most of my fellow hunters have recommended to you is to shoot different calibers and see how they feel. I was fortunate to have the benefit of both my brother in laws and my father in law who have been hunting for some 30 + years and own several different calibers. After shooting their firearms, I ended up going to Campsite Sport Shop in Huntington, NY where after picking the salesperson's brain for what seemed like hours, I bought a used Remington 710 chambered in 30-06. I've shot several deer with the rifle and it will always be my go-to firearm. Over the last 8 years I've since purchased various different caliber firearms for myself and my son. At this point its just a matter of preference as to what firearm I choose depending on where on my property I will be hunting and for what, i.e. deer, yote, etc. As far as what caliber you should choose, you have not provided any information as far as the size of the property you will be hunting on, whether it consists of thick woods or open fields. These should be factors in determining the caliber of the rifle that would work best for you and your situation. As you continue to learn all about firearms and hunting, as I have from my family, hands on experience as well as from this forum, you too will eventually develop a preference for a particular firearm that suits you the best. Good luck!
  4. Thermos makes them I use it for my coffee in the morning. Target sells them for $25. They are vacuum sealed and keep coffee hot for 6 hrs. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  5. I was on my way into NYC with relatives from Italy and my wife to site see. We were on the way in when my secretary called me and told me about the first plane. Thought it was just a small plane that had an accident. We got as far as Jamaica LIRR station when she called me again and told me about the second plane. We saw the black smoke from down town and decided to get back on one of the last east bound trains back to LI. After ensuring everyone in my family was accounted for, my wife and I ran to the store to stock up on baby formula as my son was only 2 months old. As I watched the towers collapse my heart sank. 6. Picked up my new toy. [emoji2] They mounted my scope and gave me a hard case for my new toy. Shout out to Mike at Campsite who is very knowledgeable about firearms. I had a great experience and I plan on doing all my gun related shopping there from now on. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  7. So yesterday on my way home I stopped off at Campsite Sportshop in Huntington Station to look at the ARES. They also had an M1A Scout and Socom with a shorter barrel. Both were very very nice solid firearms but way too heavy for my liking. They were also north of $1800 each. So after hemming and hawing and asking questions about the ARES, I found out that they had a generation 2 in 6.8 spec (which is not made by ARES) with the sporter's stock, the lighter poundage trigger, a standard AR charging handle and a 16" full length hand guard. They swapped out the factory 223/556 caliber and installed the 6.8 spec at the shop. I also learned that the 7.62 is not being manufactured yet. So after some negotiations, I got them to throw in a bolt catch ($40) and also having them mount and bore site my Trueglo red-dot scope all for just south of $1300. I am picking it up tomorrow and can't wait to take it to the range. I will take and post pics this weekend.
  8. Applied for and got 4y for me and my son. Planning on filling our freezer this season. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
  9. The other guy already paid the fees I would be replacing him, pay him the cost of the tags and the tags would be transferred to me. I would have to get the out of state license in my name. It would be a guided hunt as opposed to a drop off hunt. I'm still on the fence about going if in fact the door opens for me. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions. I did some research on this outfitter. From what I've found so far, there has been only one complaint filed in 2013 with the BBB where the guy ended up getting his money back. I have not seen any other reviews for this outfitter. I need to get some more info.....
  11. One of the guys in my office invited me to go on a Muley, elk and white tail hunt in Montana this November. I would be replacing another guy who may not go due to an injury. The hunt is guided at silver bow outfitters in Libby Montana. $3600 for 5 nights plus $450 for packing the harvest. I think airfare is extra. I would be looking at about $4500 to $5000 total cost not including taxidermy of the harvest. I spoke to the wife and she gave me the green light but I'm caught between a rock and a hard place because I'm looking at purchasing a new rifle and eventually a handgun once my papers go through which could cost me $2000 total. What to do... what to do... Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
  12. Thanks for your review. Would you suggest starting out with the 556 or the 7.6? I'd also like to use it for whitetail in addition to just range shooting. Are either chambers strong enough to put down deer? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  13. I'm looking to get a new semi-auto rifle and I came across the ARES Defense 5 in 7.6 x 39. I've read several reviews which say it shoots just like an AR15 but without the bells and whistles and it looks like a standard semi auto rifle. Anyone have experience with this rifle? Thanks. DT
  14. I'm not one to regularly publicize my political views but I just read this comment on a Facebook post for Secure America made by someonelse. Its a very interesting read about the first woman to be nominated for president by a major political party..... After reading this is I hope people will rethink for whom they are voting this November. "Speaking of history lessons, try this on for size.I have just finished listening to Bill Clinton tell how wonderful that his wife, Hillary, has been for the Country over the past 35 years. All she has done and how efficient she has been. I’m reminded of how incapable Hillary was during the past many years. Here’s the “Rest of the story”: REMEMBER WHEN BILL CLINTON WAS PRESIDENT? We need to remind people of Hillary's track record. Especially those with short memories and those too young to remember. If you're over 35, you lived through it, so read it and recollect. When Bill Clinton was president, he allowed Hillary to assume authority over an attempt to health care reform. Even after threats and intimidation, she couldn't get a vote in a Democrat controlled US Congress. This fiasco cost the American taxpayers about $13 million for studies, promotion, and other efforts. Then, President Clinton gave Hillary authority over selecting a female attorney general. Her first two selections were Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood - both were forced to withdraw their names from consideration. Next, she chose Janet Reno - husband Bill described her selection as "my worst mistake." Some may not remember that Reno made the decision to gas David Koresh and the Branch Davidian religious sect in Waco, Texas resulting in dozens of deaths of women and children. Husband Bill allowed Hillary to make recommendations for the head of the Civil Rights Commission. Lani Guanier was her selection. When a little probing led to the discovery of Ms. Guanier's radical views, her name had to be withdrawn from consideration. Apparently a slow learner, husband Bill allowed Hillary to make some more recommendations. She chose former law partners Web Hubbel for the Justice Department, Vince Foster for the White House staff, and William Kennedy for the Treasury Department. Her selections went well: Hubbel went to prison, Foster (presumably) committed suicide, and Kennedy was forced to resign. Many younger voters will have no knowledge of "Travelgate." Hillary wanted to award unfettered travel contracts to Clinton friend Harry Thompson - and the White House Travel Office refused to comply. She managed to have them reported to the FBI and fired. This ruined their reputations, cost them their jobs, and caused a thirty-six month investigation. Only one employee, Billy Dale was charged with a crime, and that of the enormous crime of mixing personal and White House funds. A jury acquitted him of any crime in less than two hours. Still not convinced of her ineptness, Hillary was allowed to recommend a close Clinton friend, Craig Livingstone, for the position of Director of White House security. When Livingstone was investigated for the improper access of about 900 FBI files of Clinton enemies (Filegate) and the widespread use of drugs by White House staff, suddenly Hillary and the president denied even knowing Livingstone, and of course, denied knowledge of drug use in the White House. Following this debacle, the FBI closed its White House Liaison Office after more than thirty years of service to seven presidents. Next, when women started coming forward with allegations of sexual harassment and rape by Bill Clinton, Hillary was put in charge of the "bimbo eruption" and scandal defense. Some of her more notable decisions in the debacle were: She urged her husband not to settle the Paula Jones lawsuit. After the Starr investigation they settled with Ms. Jones. She refused to release the Whitewater documents, which led to the appointment of Ken Starr as Special Prosecutor. After $80 million dollars of taxpayer money was spent, Starr's investigation led to Monica Lewinsky, which led to Bill lying about and later admitting his affairs. Hillary's devious game plan resulted in Bill losing his license to practice law for 'lying under oath' to a grand jury and then his subsequent impeachment by the House of Representatives. Hillary avoided indictment for perjury and obstruction of justice during the Starr investigation by repeating, "I do not recall," "I have no recollection," and "I don't know" a total of 56 times while under oath. After leaving the White House, Hillary was forced to return an estimated $200,000 in White House furniture, china, and artwork that she had stolen. What a swell person - ready for another four or eight years of this low-life fool? Now we are exposed to the unsecure keeping and attempted destruction of beyond Top Secret emails while Hillary was US Secretary of State and the "pay to play" schemes of the Clinton Foundation. What "shoe will fall" next? But to her loyal fans: "What difference does it make?" Electing Hillary Clinton president would be like granting Satan absolution and giving him the keys to heaven!" 18. Just heard that they dropped the death toll to 49 because they decided not to count the POS coward who did this. BTW I would have bet on at least one person having a CC on them especially in Florida who maybe could have stopped this POS or reduced the death toll. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk

  25. Well we called in two big guys from 400 yds away on other side of property but only to about 200 yds. We decided to exit the blind and walk behind the house and barn to get closer to them. We got to about 150 yds from them and it started to rain hard. Put out a few calls but no response. They went back into the woods where they came from. It was exciting though. We came in for breakfast. Hoping they cross over in the next 4 hours. Going to sit on the deck and watch them. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
