Rochester D&C Letters to the Editor 11-18-2010

They probably think meat is "made" at the grocery store ! : ... : -
I remember when you use to sit on the ground with your back against a big tree . At the time , I smoked and would have does pass within 10 yards of me and probably knew I didn't have a "Party Permit" . Four hunters could apply for a permit to take one doe . The only legal shooter was the one wearing the armband . I had and still have the Winchester 1200 pump with a Qwik-Point sight but have since replaced the modified smooth bore barrel with a rifled slug barrel . It was common in small rural villages to see a deer hanging from a tree in a back or side yard . I don't recall anyone complaining about shooting deer .

I can relate to almost all of them ...........

A woman from Brighton wrote in and complained about the picture of Cathy Turner's deer ."His eyes were still open . Was he dead or alive" ? I don't know too many people that would pose like that with a LIVE deer . She further wrote , " If there are too many deer around , there must be a kinder way to reduce the number, or is it about getting the most points and filling the freezer" ? Maybe she should volunteer to help put condoms on the bucks to keep the does from getting pregnant !

I fletch my arrows with something I swore I would never use ------- 4" Qwik-Spins I have seen the shrink vanes and don't care for the short length

NYDEER ---- Try putting some Armor All on a paper towel or soft rag and wipe it on the target arrows . It will make them easier to pull out . I bought an arrow puller that helps also .

I havn't had any luck with the Fletch Tite Platinum so I have been using the Super Glue .

I thought you were joking but I did a lookup and saw where someone is looking for one on Graigsliast in 9H ........ http://rochester.craigslist.org/wan/2057113280.html

Going out today was a bust but I had to get it out of my syatem and my son wanted to get out . After it stopped raining , we were in the stands . There were some serious wind gusts and we got down after a couple hours of swaying in the breeze . We walked across the fiels and then walked through the thick stuff to see if we might spot deer but saw nothing . So much for bow hunting for the season . Gotta get ready for gun season now ..........

I would rather be x-ray'd or patted down as well as everyone else rather than fly wondering if it's safe ..........What's the big deal ?

Kidney Belt that uses hand warmers
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I bought a box of the hand warmers at BJ's about 3 years ago and i'm getting a bit low . I have several of the bigger Body warmers that I will try out . The best time to buy them at BJ's is end of season when they reduce prices . -
Kidney Belt that uses hand warmers
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
That would make it too hot with pressure against the body , even if it was over a shirt . I have a couple of the hand muffs and one of them is kinda thin with a belt strap . I'll give that a try and see how it works out . Thanks ! -
That's a beautiful buck DeerSlayer ! Nice job .......

I'll be hunting my sister in laws property in Geneseo Saturday am . She said she would be in her stand also . Once I park , I only have a 1/4 mile walk to the stand that I will be using . I think I will take the ML instead of the shotgun . Curious to see how many gun hunters will be out and about .....

Kidney Belt that uses hand warmers
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I looked them up and saw the kidney belt warmers for around $18 and then another $10 for shipping . That's a bit pricey . I recall a gun hunter who once said that he carried a pop bottle with coffee in it to his stand . He carried it in the back part of his shirt that was tucked in his trousers . He said it kept him warm and when the coffee cooled , he would drink it . He would then pee in the bottle and put it back in his shirt by his kidneys . Sounds a bit gross to me . I'd rather figure something out fof a kidney belt . -
My youngest son and I are going to hunt in Pittsford tomorrow afternoon . According to AccuWeather , the rain should be letting up by 1 pm . But ............ I heard on the news tonight that there may be wind gusts at 40 - 50 mph late tomorrow afternoon so we could end up cutting our hunting short .

Tree stand hunting: your safety device can kill you

Yeah , I could see where that would be a serious problem if someone was totally out of shape . -
Thanks for posting the Harassment Law .......

Tree stand hunting: your safety device can kill you
fasteddie replied to Mr VJP's topic in General Chit Chat
We use the metal ladder stands and have a few set up in South Bristol . I had a DogHouse Blind setup on the property in case of bad weather . The property owner wanted it down and wants us to hunt from treestands because he feels it's safer . Didn't want to lose the hunting spot so I took it down yesterday . I figured I would be all set with the blind in case it rained but not anymore . The blind has the blaze orange tabs on all 4 sides ......... This is the only time ever I have had someone tell me NOT to hunt from the ground on their property !
