  1. I bought a NEF 50 cal inline ML about 5 years ago at the Avon Gun Shop . I had the owner of the AppleTown Gun Shop in Williamson install a scope rail on it then I mounted a 1.5 X 4.5 scope on the gun . I was in a treestand in Geneseo and saw a 6 point heading my way . I was expecting him to enter the lane-way but he entered the corn instead . Darn ! Later , I got out of the stand and walked to the North end of the field as a breeze was coming from the South East . As I walked across the North end I looked down each row . Around the middle of the field I saw a doe about 85 yards walking from east to west . I walked back about 3 rows , pulled the hammer back and aimed down the corn row . When the doe hit that row , I got her in the scope and squeezed the trigger . Bam ! And a big cloud of smoke along with a kick . I looked and saw nothing . No sound of anything running through the corn . I figured I must have missed and walked down the row to check for blood . Holy crap ! She was laying right where I had shot her . What an adrenaline rush . I was very impressed with those Hornaday 240 gr STP's .
  2. Hey Doc , you better watch it . I heard that Chantix is a "performance enhancing drug " ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/smile.gif[/img],,,http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/smile.gif[/img] Congrats to those who have kicked and Kudos to those that were smart enough to never smoke ! Pipe smokers don't put themselves in the same category and don't think pipe smoking is that bad for you . Pipe smoking contributes to macular degeneration and many pipe smokers have lost their eye sight .
  3. Read the rules that DoeWacker posted . The crossbow is only legal for Deer and Bear . Maybe they will change that . Presently the Bill is only good for 2 years but no doubt that will change also .
  4. I was still messing around with the Photo Bucket links so I may have been changing things over while you were browsing .......Double Click on it now !
  5. I tried out my EPIC StealthCam this morning . It comes with an attachment / clip that you can fasten to your hat or a foam support that you can use on your bow or gun . It was rather breezy so the mike picked up the sound of the wind . It only has a 2X magnification so it didn't show where the arrows hit which would be nice on a live deer . Anyway , here it is :
  6. Ted Nugent ... a little blurp on ETHICs
  7. Out around Atlantic Ave and Lincoln rd . It's a small property and too many people are on it . There are at least 3 other folks that hunt it plus a neighbor who tresspasses on the property . I might end up pulling my stand out of there but I don't want to upset my friend .
  8. When I quit in 1979 , cigarettes were $5.25 a carton including taxes . The secret to quiting back then was NOT to tell anyone . Guys that didn't have the willpower to quit and had failed at it didn't want to see someone else succeed . I remember reaching for a cigarette in my shirt pocket months after quiting as it was a habit ......... My youngest son quit smoking about a year ago and had used the nicotine patch to do it . Whatever it takes ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/thumbup.gif[/img]
  9. Thought I would start this topic as some of it was discussed in another thread . Up until 8 am Dec 24 , 1979 , I had smoked all my life ( even when I played sports in High School ) . It took my Dad dying of cancer 11/11/79 to get me to quit . I didn't tell anyone that I had planned to quit and started to taper off with the smoking and then just quit cold turkey . MY father died at the age of 66 and the Cancer did him in ............ Quiting smoking is probably one of the hardest things a person would ever have to do . Congrat's to those that kick the habit !
  10. I wonder if the Insurance Companies hammer the DEC to have more deer killed as it must cost a fortune to the Insurance Companies for Deer / Vehicle accidents .
  11. I take the pics on a friend's property in Walworth . The problem is .... his son , daughter in law and daurhter's boyfriend hun back there . With all those folks going through , they kinda stink up the area . My friend walked out in the area on Sept 21 and I havn't gotten any pics in two days .
  12. Vaseline ? Ar e you planning on taking a Texas Heart shot ? http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/help.gif[/img]
  13. Too bad that they have the Gun Show the same days as the Region 8 DEC Extravaganza ..............I guess i'll save the $8 - $10 admission charge per person .
  14. Geno ---- He is already getting a tune on it . He want's to eliminate the sound ! ( sorry , I couldn't resist ! )
  15. Also , think about the stores that sell special items that are being put on the market ( new I-Pods , etc ) and have people standing , sitting , camping in line a day or so before the store opens to make a purchase and trample one another to get in ...... I know it's an exaggeration , but it's not that far fetched that someyhing like that could happen on a smaller scale . I would assume that most of the hunter's have jobs and in no way could they be lining up for a 1st come 1st served basis for doe permits . I have the Sportsman's Lifetime license . Although I didn't get it in the mail until August 16 , the issue date is printed as "July 8 " so I would have a 5 week advantage on anyone standing in line to get doe permits . Would that be fair ?
  16. I leave my Blaze Orange walker at the base of the tree so I can be found if I don't return in a reasonable time ( a month or so ) .
  17. I don't care who you are , that's funny ! ')'>http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/newrollinglaugh.gif[/img]
  18. You would think that it could be reprinted at any Town Clerk's Office .
  19. I have a HSS harness and don't go in a treestand without it .
  20. I don't need the state to put restrictions on the deer's rack . I can do that myself . I have never shot anything larger than an 8 point basket rack but would like to before I die . It won't happen by shooting the little ones . I practice my own QDM by taking a share of the does and passing on the little bucks . I leave the spikes & fork horns for the guys that "need" to shoot something with horns and think that's the Macho thing to do . http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/icon_smile_whistling.gif[/img]
  21. Why fix something that works ? The LOTTERY system works quite well . I get 2 every year ! :
  22. Take Geritol you old fart, I do. Geritol is for tired blood . I don't get tired blood , I get tired all over ! I even have a personal crossing sign at the end of my driveway .........
  23. Let'em go , let'em grow ! They started practicing QDM in Italy Valley about 3 years ago and they are seeing lagre bucks than they had in the past .
  24. Take something like a couple of tomato stakes and stick them in the ground in a shady spot . Slide the boots on the stakes and let them air out for a couple days . After that you could spray them with some scent killer . No wait ........no scent killer ...... that might be some sort of enhancement ! ')'>http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/picker.gif[/img] Just kidding . TRy the Scent Killer if the smell persists .
