sunday hunting restriction in Western NY
fasteddie replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Deer Hunting
I am retired . I have plenty of days to hunt ! I go to mass sunday mornings and watch football in the afternoon . -
I only know 2 deer hunters that would consume more than 2 deer a season . I get more than 2 permits and have done the Deer Donation a few times . I just hope that the venison is actually going to "the needy" !

What is some good rain gear for bow hunting ? Looking for something to keep me dry , is quiet and is NOT insulated .
-
Both are fine . For a few years , I would quit hunting about an hour before quitting time . I didn't want to hit one in low light and have to track in the dark . But ...... that's when the deer start moving in one of the areas I hunt . Last year I got my bow kill late in the afternoon .

Yupper . Two more weeks and I wn't be sitting at the computer !

Taking less does would cause some areas to be overrun by deer . Your chiropractor friend should stick with what he knows best ! ...

Anyone make knives or customize them?
fasteddie replied to nyslowhand's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I have never delved into the making of knives but guys in the "Tool Room" where I worked made hunting knives out of files , etc .. They did more "Government Jobs" than actual work on tools and dies . Many of the handles were made out of layers of Phenolic . -
Deer scents and cover scents, if you use them, how much?
fasteddie replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
An expensive vanilla extract at that ! ??? -
In 1966 , I went to Canasaragus (sp) with a fellow worker . We set up about 100 yards apart on State land . Around 7:30 am a pickup came down the dirt road and was dropping guys off about every 50 yards . Then these guys started walking past us banging pans and making a lot of racket . I was soooooo pissed but then it was funny . They looked like the guys from the movie , Deliverance . The movie was made years later but ........ it could have been any one of those locals .

This is how it looks before the "clean-up" ............

There would be an overpopulation of deer as well as more deer / vehicle accidents . More and more of the deer's domain is being lost to housing tracts . The suggestion / proprosal would get sha-zit canned !

How Stupid do they "Think" we Are - Deer Hunting Aids
fasteddie replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
I had a treestand in Geneseo that split off into 3 trunks . I put a 3' X 4' pressure treated stand in it about 18' high . I shot several deer from there and got my 1st bowkill from there . It had a great viev across a woods and there is a big ditch behind it . We could hunt the other side also . I got busted when I turned to look behind me . I took care of that problem . I took a 5" X 8" camping mirror the next time and fastened it to one of the trunks in the stand with a bungie cord . I could see movement behind me when there was some . I could spot other hunters when they were approaching . Soooooo , I can see where that Deer View Mirror might be handy . -
I'll give that a 2 thumbs up !

Would like to start Reloading ammunition?
fasteddie replied to Landowner's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Personally , I prefer the single stage . I have a Lyman Turret Press and a Lee single Stage . I use both of them as a single stage . * Caselube the brass *** Resize the brass * Tumble the brass * Clean the primer pocket and chamfer the casemouth * Weigh powder and pour *** Seat the bullet So I don't have a need to use a progressive reloader as I am using the press in 2 steps of my process . I reload 223 , 25-06 , 270 , 308 and 44 mag with no problem . What I need for my reloading is Lock Rings dor my dies . -
We should be thankful that we didn't get the rain that they had in the Carolinas !

Exactly ! It gives folks the impression that Hunters are Drinkers and that they drink while they hunt . When I saw the cartoon , it touched a nerve .
