Thanks Paula for the words of encouragement. Me and Bailey spent the nice day hiking the shores of Hemlock lake. She is a really good pup and will miss her like crazy but a new home with loving family is whats best for her..

Like the others have said they got big by being smart. This time of year though you will see them do things that are down right stupid. I can't over state one thing though. If you want to up your big buck sightings by 75%, then don't even think about getting out of your stand for breakfast or lunch. This year has played out very similar to years past. The first 2 hrs of daylight you will see the younger deer all cranked up, franticly runnin the girls all over but from about 9am til after noon is when the big boys will show up and put an end to the childs play. It's almost like they purposely let the does get back to there comfortable bedding grounds and then move in to scent check and find themselves a date.

Although it is breakin' my heart, i must find a new home for my dog Bailey. We adopted her when she was 6 weeks old from a shelter that was going to put her down. I already have two Border Collies and the addition of a third dog has created a situation that is just not working for the dogs or my family. For detailed information on Bailey and the needs that she has please visit my wifes blog at http://notesfromthefunnyfarm.wordpress.com/ or PM or call Dave at (585) 329-5177.

Tug hill, are you sure you meant to say brassicas? They are an annual and you should not be mowing them at all.. Let them grow and then let the deer take care of eating them to the ground during the winter months..

When is it too late to put up a permanent stand?
dave6x6 replied to gunner1's topic in General Hunting
Yea, i would just do as the others say and be quick about it. Minimize you scent as much as you can and wait for rain to be in forcast if possible. We always keep a couple stands on reserve in case something becomes hot. or we notice a certain pattern develope. -

Hunter dies in Indiana - fall from tree stand??

I hope you mean HARNESS... If you are only wearing a belt then you may as well wear nothing. Your death will be much quicker and probably less painful. No harness- no hunt.. -
I also hunt 8h and i have seen bucks chasin' since opening day but things have cooled off a bit in the last week. I find it very unlikely that that buck was tending the doe but i guess anything is possible. This coming week should see the seeking and chasing kick up quite a bit and if all goes well, things should peak between the 4th - about the 9th. The big boys are sniffin' around a bit right now but they know things are not ready yet.

TK, I would never tell you what you should or should not shoot. Id love to see what this deer would grow into but i also can tell you this. If that buck steps in front of you and you rip one right through the boilermaker, you are going to have a smile on your face for yrs. to come. And i'd be the first to give you a big ata-boy..

2 yr old with what looks like some great potential. If he can live to 4 or 5 those beams are going to be thick and palmated. also very good brows for 2 yr old. 85 inches now. Beastly 150 incher two years from now.
-
Man, look at the size of that slob. Great job killing that mature deer..
-
NYantler is right on. Both are nice deer but i dont think either one makes 115. 3 1/2 yr. 8 point . 9 point could be a good 3 yr. old but more likely a 4. G-3's are short so wont score great.
-
Yea, I've measured a 23 7/8 wide buck and this one i think is over 25". Think he should name him the chisel plow buck with that dropper..
-
Phade, Not sure what part of livingston county you hunt but i did get to see a 150" plus 8 point today. Was shot last night in northern part of the county. Have not got permision to post pics yet but if i do, i will. He's about as big an 8 as i've seen in these parts.

Oh shoot. I thought it had to have been posted already but i couldn't find it anywhere. Sorry for the duplication. Just like my hunting, i seem to be one step behind when it comes to the giants..

Friend of a buddy shot this deer i believe opening weekend in Alabama NY. I know we have some west siders that hunt out that way so was wondering if anyone knew or had heard about this beast. Hope i didn't get suckered into spreading a deer hoaks but i don't think so. If true, its another example of the great deer that have come out of that region in recent yrs.

I'm put 20$ on fake.

Anyone ever try to test one of your cams?
dave6x6 replied to crs740's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
both my moultries are on the fritz. IR one has been at moultrie for 3 weeks. they said it would be back in my hand for opening day.. Flash d-40 is only waking up when it feels like it. Every time i think i got it fixed, i set it up, get great pics of my face 10 inches from the lens, and then the next time i check it, its off. Really wanted to buy the m-100 but feeling a bit weary about this manufacturer right now. -
So is that the end ? I was really hoping for one more nugget from sits in woods.
-
Boy you really are going to fight for your right to drink in the woods with a leathal weapon in your hand aren't you. And from the sounds of it, you would much rather hunt with a guy that goes to the liquor store before the hunt than a guy that goes to church before he hunts. Sits in woods can hunt with drinks in woods if he wants but pretty ignorant if you ask me. Our hunting is way more serious than that attitude and we save our cold ones for recounting the days events after dark.
