  1. Good job young lady, good old You Tube has saved the day and helped me get through many projects. Al
  2. One of the advantages of being a handloader is the ability to produce ammo no longer being made. I already have the Redding 3 die case forming set for 256 Win, have done case forming for several other cartridges so I am familiar with the process. Ran a few test cases and so far so good. The barrel on the Levermatic is 23 inches. Al
  3. Just getting it all setup to shoot, scope bases and rings, sling stud installation and ammunition. 256 Winchester ammo has not been produced since the late nineties, any new old stock found is going for up to $5 a round. I will be rolling my own, just waiting for all the components to come in. Al
  4. A new project I am just getting started on, acquired a pristine like new rifle that has had only 10 rounds put through it. Chambered in the little dynamo cartridge 256 Winchester Mag, made for a few short years during the mid sixties. Will update as things come along. Al
  5. I am a Bushnell man when it comes to binoculars, they have worked well for me down through the years, The "Legend" models in different sizes are the ones I like best. Al
  6. In honor of the nostalgia buzz I got from Old Brian's stump shooting video I went out this morning and did a little arrow slinging with my first longbow picked up this past summer, a 68 inch SAS, nothing fancy but jeeze I like it. My first victim was a real trophy a big old white pine stump that sits in my yard the wife uses for a planter, then went out back a drilled a few more, plenty of stumps around here and they did not cost me a penny. Again thanks Brian for the video. Al
  7. Knew a woman years ago from Louisiana that raised and hunted with "Saint Hubert Hounds", (Bloodhounds) Al
  8. I and my family will be doing our part to make sure it happens. Al
  9. I have subscribed to Old Brian's Poverty Hill channel and have watched a few of his videos and enjoyed them a lot. I came across this one about stump shooting and I have not heard that term in many years but there was a time me and some of my fellow archers would do some stump shooting with our recurves as depicted in Old Brian's video, it was a common term at one time. It is a lot of fun and good practice especially for small game which I did a lot of mostly for rabbits. It can do a number on your arrows so we used our beat up ones mostly.
  10. The smile says it all, keep the little guy in the game, I hope he sticks with it. For me archery is one of those things that gets in your blood and just provides me with a lot of enjoyment and challenge. Even though I do not hunt nowhere near as much as I once did I still love to get out and shoot, got me my first real long bow this summer and have had a blast slinging arrows with it. Al
  11. The 140 gr Hornady gives good balance in 270 cal both with trajectory and hitting power and being it shot the best I would be leaning that way. Did a ballistic chart for you with that bullet out to 300 yards sighted dead on at 200 going 2900 fps, looks like pretty good performance to me. Al
  12. I have a read only blog that is an accumulation of information about Airedale Terriers used for hunting. http://huntingwithairedales.blogspot.com/2010/07/hunting-with-airedales.html
  13. I have been involved in these battles since before you were born, belong to a bunch of organizations and put my money and votes where my mouth is to fight these knuckleheads. The first thing I do is contact elected officials with my concerns and as far as talking to liberals about guns and hunting and actually changing their mind been there done that. These folks all have websites and forums just like this one spouting their anti everything venom, but don't take my word for it, go ahead and join a few and plead your case and see what happens, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out after you are banned. Below is a list of winners to get you started all in with the Democrats by the way. As for me I have watched this country getting turned into a shithole for years and it is good old hardball from here on out for me, if you don't like what I have to say don't read it!!! Al
  14. Pray tell give me your advice on how to go about doing that. I would think that a hunting and outdoor forum would be exactly the place to get the message out of who are with us and who are against!! Al
  15. Had a chance to get my hands on some 22 ammo and purchased a bunch of Browning BPR 22 LR stuff, this ammo pretty much duplicates CCI Velocitors which is substantially more powerful than regular ammo. I have never shot any myself so I was interested to see how it performs, got out one of my best shooters, a Winchester model 52B sporter which has the reputation of being the King of the 22s. This gun is a Japanese reproduction made back in the late 90s I think and the quality in my opinion rivals the original Winchesters, it is one beautiful rifle. I have fooled around quite a bit with various premium hyper velocity ammo, the main complaints you will find is it does not have the gilt edge accuracy of some of the regular standard stuff. I am quite pleased with this Browning ammo and it shoots about the same as the CCI accuracy wise, not the one hole groups of standard velocity but good enough for Squirrels and would be very good for Fox and Chuck within it's range limits say 75 yds for Squirrels and out to a little over 100yds on Chucks. Al
  16. I would be willing to bet there is a lot more here like Grouse than there are for a non citizen socialist as yourself, most here let the political stuff slide and do not get involved and that can be a big problem as a group outdoorsmen and gun owners are way too complacent and need a fire lit under their asses. Al
  17. Thanks so much for the offer but I have plenty for my own use. Ebay would be a good place to unload them, they are getting a pretty good buck for vintage Bear equipment especially good condition razorheads. Al
  18. Enjoyed the video Brian, as the old saying goes variety is the spice of life especially when it comes to hunting. That gully you were standing over with the creek running through looks like great habitat for Grouse and Woodcock. I have had some pretty fair days putting out game walking creeks such as that. Al
  19. I spend a lot of time in the woods early Fall small game hunting, I use that time for checking the Deer situation and their movements, bedding areas and food sources, so I am pretty well set on any plan of attack and where I want to be if I do any Deer hunting. Al
  20. I kept thinking I remember that knucklehead Fetterman who is after a PA senate seat from somewhere in the past, turns out it was the Movie "Battleship"! Looks a lot like one of the invaders to me Al
  21. I was alerted to moisture wicking base wear back when Joe Namath was still playing football, he caused quite the stir by wearing women's pantyhose under his uniform playing games in bleak cold conditions. It was not a stunt and it caught on quickly as being something that was effective. An outfit called Damart came on to the scene outfitting the players with long underwear made from poly and it was a huge success soon spilling over into the hunting wear world. I got some and loved it, I still wear poly today, the military stuff in different weights and dress according to the temps. I still wear Woorich outerwear when it is cold, I have found nothing better. Al
  22. XTP bullets are one of my favorites, if you have a firearm that puts them where you want they will live up to their end of the bargain. They have killed plenty of Deer for me out of handguns, rifles and my old TC Black Diamond, both the 357 and 44 cals have worked well for me. Al
  23. I can see immediately what your problem was, "way too much cotton" I would be sweating bullets just wearing that stuff, throw in a long walk tracking or chasing Beagles on snowshoes hunting Hare I would be sopping wet, a sure fire way to freeze your ass off in cold weather. Rule number one poly, silk or wool for the first layer, wicking moisture away from your skin is key. I spent many years hunting Hare every winter during the coldest months of the year and never got cold wearing the Woolrich PA Tux. Yes they are a little heavy but at 73 years old I still wear wool and can still get around as much as need be. Al
  24. I guess everyone has their own idea of what hunting is, I started hunting at a time before today's fancy designer equipment came into vogue, no cameras, tree stands or hunting shacks with all the comforts of home, most guys did not even use scopes on their firearms. For gear I splurged on Woolrich clothing, wool socks, Bean hunting boots and a hotseat, 60 years later am still basically hunting with the same stuff using the same techniques and still having hunting success. To each their own. Al
