  1. I've used Borows in Delhi, he did a bear and a buck for me, does good work.
  2. Great story Wolc that payback must have been a bitch getting him out of nasty swamp. I took one look at my buck and said there's no way I'm dragging this boy off this mountain top. Went back to camp and got the UTV. Hardest part was me and my dad (82years old) getting him up on the UTV bed, the rest was very easy.
  3. A possibility, yes always on high alert around 10am..lol
  4. Yeah and that's the reason I get in real early, just never know. I rather bump them in the dark then walking in late.
  5. For us that magical day and time has always been the day after the opener on Sunday and has always been around 10am. Like Jay's buck, the buck I shot yesterday only had 10 more yards and would have been in my sanctuary. Like you, the only time I enter that sanctuary is if I need to retrieve a deer in there, have not been in that 10 acre section in years.
  6. To be honest i don't recall ever shooting a big buck before 930. Some smaller ones yes but not the big guys. Have shot a couple big ones later then 2 but the mass majority were killed between 9:45 and 10:30am.
  7. Definitely was ideal conditions yesterday morning. very light wind, cold and crisp 25 degrees. It just felt right. But 10am has always been that magical time in which almost all of the big bucks are taken on my property.
  8. Thats great, I wasn't taking any chances with my buck, ten more yards and over the stone wall he was in my sanctuary and who knows how many does were in there. There would be no calling him back, had to make a fast decision to lead him and shoot soon as he stepped into my crosshairs.
  9. Sunrises on top of a mountain for me are epic, pretty hard to beat. Check this out.
  10. Same here but my buck I shot today at 945am was on the track of two does that passed at 8am, thier sense of smell is phenomenal, he picked up thier smell and off he went, had a split second to get on him and shoot. He was almost like a beagle on a cold trail trying to figure out the line, once he figured out that line he was off to the races.
  11. You may be on to something..late mornings are key.
  12. I hear ya, but even after all those experiences I still haul my ass up that mountain and in my stand at 530am. Like you im a glutton for long days, but it does eventually pays its dues.
  13. Not sure if coincidental or not but for some reason over the years we have shot 4 decent bucks and they were all shot at 10am or very close to that time and all were shot the day after opening day (Sunday). Is there something to this? That day and time seems to happen too often to be just coincidental?
  14. Move to the fresh sign, rubs, scrapes, food to bedding.
  15. 7 pointer this morning trailing two does. Dropped in tracks with 6.5 creedmoor shooting 120 grain hornady GMX bullet, entered high shoulder exited neck.
  16. Saw 8 does yesterday, this morning I saw 3 does at first light, then about 8am saw two does enter my sanctuary after feeding in the plot then an hour 45 minutes later this 7 point comes into plot at 945 then quickly heads towards the does that were there earlier following thier trail, was not gonna stop, led him as he walked and dropped him in his tracks. Shot with new 6.5 creedmoor using Hornady 120 grain GMX bullets. Hit high shoulder came out neck on exit side. Hes a hefty boy.
  17. Sorry for this situation, feel bad for your boy. Sometimes people get caught up in selfishness and keep our pets strung along for our own needs. You my friend are making the right decision in putting your pet first and your feelings second. Just take comfort in the great life you and your family gave to that lab. Prayers sent.
  18. If you feel chances are good with the ladderstand, I would stick with it for atleast a day before your start getting mobile.
  19. Congrats, where is that will all that snow?
  20. I never play the wind, most my stands deer will come from all directions so why bother with the wind, I get dressed (layered up) on stand and will spray down on stand.
  21. TC Compass 2 compact in 6.5 creedmoor.
  22. Venison roast, butternut squash and potatoes.
