Has anyone used one of those heaters in a blind?
NYBowhunter replied to Sir-diealot's topic in General Hunting
Last year I went with the buddy heater for my box blind and wondered to myself why I didn't get one years ago. Keeps you very toasty in an enclosed blind and don't need to wear lots of clothing. -
Happy Birthday.

A male is a male is a male,. A deer,, bear,, squirrel or human no difference, all will breed at a seconds notice if allowed.. Antlers on deer,, horns on a ram, teeth on a dog, fists of a man...all used to establish dominance over another, has no relevance to my opinion. . I have had mature bucks on my cams tending and using mock scrapes as early as beginning of September, whats your point? Estrous /tinks drags are very inconsistent, not worth the effort. Nothing compares to a live doe in heat. I bet you get a doe in estrous running around your woods the beginning of September you will have bucks chasing her and wanting to breed her, but wait a buck in September has not rutted yet, do you think he would just ignore her?

I have my opinions and that article is just that a research with an opinion. Some believe in moon phases, light cycles, biometric pressure..etc...thier all just theories. I still stand by the fact that yes all animals have breeding/mating cycles but the females trigger males to become what they are at a certain time of the year. A buck would breed in May as he would in November if presented with a doe in heat/estrous. But as you know a doe comes into heat in November/December for a reason. Thats my stance, so yes back to the board.

Thats fine. But just so your aware all males in general will and can breed at anytime during the year., They only act rutty and are blinded because the does are coming into estrous, give off scent to entice bucks.. Females dictate all aspects of the breeding process. The does scent and readiness to breed is what makes the males act the way they do. Take a dog for instance, it will breed at any chance it can, ever notice when they come across the scent of a female in heat, most intact males will begin to drool and follow scent. Lets just say hyperthetically that a doe comes into estrous in May, dont you think a buck would breed her? Or do you think based upon your opinion that the male would need to go into rut first then breed the doe. I can bet my bank accounts that same buck will act just as crazy in May as he would in November only because that doe is giving off scents to tell him she's ready.. The bucks only act rutty certain times of the year because of the scent that does lay down to express thier ability to breed NOW.

Actually its the female of almost all animals that controls when the rut/ breeding will occur. Males of the animal kingdom can and will breed anytime of the year if allowed too. Those bucks only stop breeding and chasing because the females are no longer receptive.

Thats plenty time, at this point after 8 hours I would push him real hard, if you jump him out of his bed keep on him. Many may not recommend this method but from experience it works.. I have recovered 2 gut shot deer one with bow and other with rifle, waited a couple hours and then tracked them hard, jump them, keep on them and basically ran them both down to the ground. Both instances after jumping them out of thier beds a few times they finally gave in due to exhaustion/trauma and was able to basically walk up to both and put them down. -
Seems early snow is hitting my area of 4F, got reports that a couple inches are on the ground today. Hows it looking in your area?

Thats a decision only you can make. I have shot 1 1/2 year olds and have let alot go. All depends on what my freezer looks like and how I feel on that particular day. More importantly have fun, be happy with your decision and no one should tell you otherwise. Good luck. -
First sit of the season, 3 does came into the foodplot, took the largest one.

Welcome, where would that be?

I own 41 acres and its plenty enough for me and two others. Its not really about the size as it is the quality of the land and what you make of it. The size comes into play depending on how many will hunt it. With 62 acres and you put in 4-6 food plots and no agriculture around you, that is a recipe for a gold mine. My 41 acres has many agricultural farms near by and I still attract deer.by offering different food, water and cover. Plant some apples trees, put in a few large to medium size food plots and you will be golden. Remember the process never ends, either small or large projects but I try to do something to my land each year that makes it better, more attractive to wildlife.. If your into working hard and have the equipment, 62 acres can become a paradise for hunting. Good luck and keep us posted.

A black bear mother with cubs or yearlings will kill you just as fast as a grizzly. Unlikely but very possible. -
Thats extremely odd!!!

I'm living vicarious thru you guys. -
My sediments exactly, I just don't get all the tension. I'd be lying if I said nothing was wrong with that pic..like you said why even bother being on a hunting forum if you get upset at innocent questioning. BTW Hydros rule!!
-
I didn't realize there was such an etiquette, guess I was raised wrong. This is getting comical. This is the internet, cant take comments then maybe the internet is not for everyone. I agree with you belo and like I indicated in my first response I just think it was an odd pic. and others were just curious. If someone's posts a pic. and I want to make a comment I will do just that, this is entertainment. Some people are just too uptight these days. Its besides me that people have a hard time and get upset just to amswer a couple simple questions. Seemed to be a civil discussion among fellow hunters thats all, atleast thats the way I saw it. Oh well.

Baffin boots by far the best extreme cold weather boots. I only use a thin dress sock with them and my feet are nice and toasty, typically will only pull them out during the late ML season or tail end of rifle season.

Salmon and Bok Choy!!!

Good luck, big buck and shave that works for me.
-
LMAO , thats sad...jk..your better off, shaving is a pain.

Haha, he won't shave it. He loves that he can grow a full beard at 16 while most of his friends still rock baby faces... Iol
