Thanks guys.forgot to add the part where me and my buddy had to take the utv up the mountain in the pitch black of the night, that was an adventure. Had to cross a stream and then ride to the top. Glad I made trails for the utv to access alot of the steeper parts of the property, was able to get the utv within 50 yards of the bear. Wow, the memories will last us a life time. Was truly an awesome experience. Can't wait to try for first time some bear meat. Took the backstraps and one back leg, gave other leg to taxidermist. BTW she had a very nice pelt and even the taxidermist said she had more fat then usual, some places we measured the fat at 2+ inches thick, amount of fat was unreal.

What started out as a deer hunt towards end of day, was success on a beautiful bear. Hunted hard all day 11/16 and had seen a bunch of does. The afternoon was very slow and uneventful. As the day was nearing it's end I heard crunch of leaves and I thought to myself here comes a deer, looked over my shoulder and there she was coming in from behind me at a nice pace about 75 yards out. I gave the bear a few minutes as I looked around to ensure there were no other bears in tow. While looking around she must have smelled or made me out, so she veered away from me and was heading for the hilltop and would have been out of sight in less then 50 yards. So now the bear is at a 100 yards, so I improvised to stop her and i sucked on my hand to make an animal distress call and she stopped instantly. Had my dad's 50 yr. Old marlin 35 shooting 150 grain spear points. She was going up hill and quartering away hard, bullet went in behind shoulder and came out her head. She had a massive head and scaled out at 230 lbs. For what I hear this is a true trophy for otsego county as not many are taken each year. Only have had this property for a few years, I'm truly blessed.

Can't wait heading up to camp in the morning, I'll be using my dad's 50 year old 35 lever action. Took it out last weekend and I was breaking paper at 50 yards. So excited, I'll probably be tossing all Friday night. Wishing you all good luck and be safe.

I'm not one to get deer scored, but I was just curious what this buck in the center would score. I won't hold anyone to their score, just looking for an approx. score. Thanks

Here's five mounts I had done.

Had a 5 pointer this weekend mess me up by pushing 3 does down the mountain (was hoping to take one). He seemed slightly interested in my drag line and decided to make a quick scrape under an apple tree. Seen 21 deer this weekend in total so they are still moving nicely on the back 40. Saw 5 fresh scrapes. Seems the little guys are giving chase right now.

Heres a view of my Saturday morning sit, surrounded on three sides by huge pines and out in front are 10 or so apple trees. So peacefull !!!!!

Can any one age this buck and would you shoot him
NYBowhunter replied to apoallo's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Shoot what you like if it makes you happy, life is way too short to worry what others have to say. The whole hunting experience with loved ones is what should matter, its those memories that we hold on to, not the size of a bucks rack. -
Shooting a Mathews switchback XT which is a smooth shooting tack driver, don't see any need to update ( not just yet), beeman ics camo hunter shafts, blazer vanes, 100 gr. 2 blade rage razor cut, spot Hogg sight with only one pin ( shoots flat out to 20 yards), trophy taker shakey hunter drop away rest, string loop, limb saver stabilizer and limb shock absorbers, 2 piece mathews quiver. Sorry no pic.

Thanks Pav. -
Really stretched the legs on my new UTV and gave myself a good workout (man i'm pooped). Hauled all this wood off the mountain of my property to the road where my dad and uncle waited with a 4X8 trailer to tow the load back to the house with the truck. Probably made 6 trips back to the house with the 4X8' trailer filled to max before we were done and that was on Friday, then on saturday we had the wood split and stacked. Not bad for a guy in his forties and 2 men in their mid 70's....lol.. but boy am I feeling it today. Atleast all the firewood wood is set for this hunting season and probably 2 more seasons...lol

Thanks tbarb. Yes even with having a tractor and implements its hard back breaking work , but in the end to sit back and look at what is accomplished makes a person very proud. Theres alot of joy that comes out of putting in plots, atleast thats how I feel. I definately give back way more then I take. -
The new ladino clover, alfalfa and daikon radish plot is coming along nicely with the help of all this rain and the deer and turkey are liking it... in a 2 week period had 1500 pictures off this plot, here are a couple of pics...Enjoy..
