  8. I had my first ever bow hunt this morning. Have gun hunted for many years and just took the bow class on Sept 17th. My friend gave me a used bow and I began practicing every day. Went to my friends property where he had several bucks on his cam and my son and I in got in a stand around 6:50 this morning. My son spots a doe around 8:30 who kept looking over her shoulder while milling around the stand, my son then said here comes another one and when I looked I saw a beautiful 6 pointer folowing her, he comes in from behind so I stand up and get ready while he comes closer. He then started trying to chase her to no avail, he walked off and gave me a 20-25 yard broadside shot. I hit him and he ran off, and I said I am new at this I must have missed, so I called my friend and he came out and we found the arrow with blood hair and guts on it. We picked up a nice blood trail and began following. We came upon a spot where he laid down and we bumped him. Being much more experienced at tracking deer he immediately said we must back out and let him die. It was the longest 6 hours of my life we didn't go back out till almost 3pm and picked up the blood trail where we left off, but it soon disappeared, We finally found him about 150 yards from where I shot him. I am beyond excited and cant believe I was in the stand for 90 mins and shot a really nice deer w/ the bow. I guess that is beginners luck !

  10. Was in Bass Pro in Maryland yesterday, they are offering a 10% discount to all Firefighters, Police, Military, EMT's through Monday 10/31 Just a heads up to anyone in the area of the Auburn NY store just show your ID at checkout and you will receive the discount. Picked up a few items on my way back to the airport and was pleasently surprised by the discount so if you are in one of these professions and need a few things happy shopping....
  11. Awesome ! What a nice looking deer. Way to stay the course he was worth the wait
  12. As my Dad told me when I began hunting and repeated it many times throughout my life "there is no I'm sorry with a gun". I have now repeated it many times to my son,and when he read this article he said the same thing that most of us are saying. So not to beat a fallen horse, but just puttin my 2 cents in. Be safe out there and enjoy the season
  13. Welcome to the forum that is just as addictive as hunting !
  14. my son (13) started hunting w/ me recently, it's the best, lots of fun and great bonding. Also got him to join the site. My daughter is also very interested but has a few yrs to wait . Although my son does like the video games he would never give up hunting to play. There are some pretty cool hunting games but it's not something I have time to waste on and besides I'd rather be out there doing the real thing. JMO
