  1. I sure wish we had a cat season up by us.
  2. only seems fitting that "towing" and Ford are used together so much in a post...lol
  3. who are you considering getting the encore smokeless barrel from? I've been considering this myself
  4. @The_Real_TCIII here's an illustration. Camera date and time is correct. you can see me luring the set. It's a gap in a rock wall with a game trail using the opening. Nice tight pinch point. ....AAAAAAAAND the coyote walks the wall and doesn't go near the trap. If you can picture this, the trap is about a foot to the left of my left knee as I am positioned.
  5. when we had that big snow, thaw, heavy rain and the re-freeze with a dusting I should have taken pics of the print right above the pans of the traps on the 1/2" thick ice crust. 4 letter words flew that day...lol
  6. you mean like when the 22LR returned to the pricing it was before the shortages? lol
  7. is there a big market for mounts that a person didn't get themselves?
  8. Well as it turns out the fox that abandoned it's buddy at the first catch site just couldn't resist the open field set where we remade it from the coyote catch he other day. That is about 100 yards from this initial catch site. We went to the edge of the catch circle and reinstalled the pipe and left the catch circle. Made kind of a combination hay set / pipe dream set. Zero for coyotes today.
  9. For an eastern hope is maybe 40-50 this year. (hope). Problem with eastern vs western (so I am told) is that the easterns, while larger, have far more color variations. You can get an eastern that grades as a western becasue the color matches them but remember this is a garment market and buyers like a uniform color so there is less matching and mixing. The more they have to do with a fur the lower the price is. Coyote is about the only thing of value. Many guys I am talking to are trying to develop alternative markets like making hats and mittens and other items to sell themselves. I've seen skunk mittens going for between 100-250 a pair. Beaver bed comforters that are $2,000 for a queen size. Coon hats for $100
  10. he like frustration...lol. It's humbling to see so much activity near the sets and not get a catch. when it snows you see it but my buddy knew that coyote visited and when he went down he couldn't see any sign of it becasue of hard frozen ground.
  11. you just need to be able to get there in the time so the animal isn't sitting too long. Nice part is on the cam sets you know the knight before or before you even get dressed that the animal is there. On a road type line you can get there pretty fast.
  12. Well last night we had a little action. We had a camera on this set so you'll see what looks like a good sized coyote come onto the set but stay back and not approach. then about an hour later 2 fox come in and only one gets to leave. Also the pic of the big male from yesterday after the skinning.
  13. Personally not a fan of the tape but if you do make sure you wrap it in the correct direction for threading in.
  14. I use the Thompson center https://www.amazon.com/Thompson-Center-Breech-Grease-65oz/dp/B008W1QB5M That tube will last you years. Just a touch and some advice. Do not over tighten the plug when putting it back in. After I clean mine it get a thin bead straight down the one side of the plug. rub flat with your finger and spin in. using the "socket part of the breech wrench just go hand tight. no need to use the rod at all installing the plug. You'll thank me when taking it out...lol
  15. He was barking at my buddy the entire time from when he got out of the truck.
  16. Just outside the dispatch circle really. 3-4’
  17. Update. 46.5 pound and 6’ from nose to tip of tail when skinned
  18. Big male last night. Haven’t gotten a weight yet. There was a tuft of grass that we could see in the snow, a male was marking it. He hit it on both sides so we set both sides. That was a week ago and last night he came back to mark it again. Not sure which one he got in first but ended up stepping g in both. No cell cam on this set
  19. Not sure age but the first female we got this year was 39#. This one was 28#
  20. I have been told by multiple DEC officers it does. Also drones. As long as you lay eyes on your set you are good.
  21. Scored again last night. This was a pipe dream set we mad in open field about 4 weeks ago. Relured it about 3 weeks ago and it finally got worked.
  22. The trials were so short and fast tracked that they don't know how long the immunity will last. 3 months?...6 months?...Until the virus mutates and we need to get an annual shot like we do for the flu?
  23. Last Saturday we reset the entire line. Even though the wax dirt was keeping the traps working the melt and refreeze gave us a crust and we had tracks right on the pans of multiple sets. It was a full day dealing with the ice and we got 5 new set locations covered as well. Monday's check had a Red fox on a scent post in the open field at a crop change. I carried that log out there a couple weeks ago and it was frozen in solid so we reset the trap and added fox urine. On todays check we hit a double on coyotes. Both were dirt holes. Hoping we get some more movement tonight.
  24. Yes. It’s isn’t a 50 bullet in the sabot so the whole assembly ends up being 50 cal. Or a 50 cal bullet like a power belt
