  1. Something else to remember. Those prices are to a middle man buyer. They will either use or sell to a market they have or ship to the large auctions. They are speculating and @Biz-R-OWorld, how would your prices be if you were speculating?
  2. It isn't "prettier" fur. It's more consistent in color basically. A black coyote would have value as a pelt or to a taxidermist but would not sell well at all in the garment market, (the way I understand it). There are eastern coyotes that will grade just as well as the westerns but it is because they share the more marketable color. Less sorting and trimming and labor to make something out of uniform color fur and that color may sell better so it's worth more. There are grade considerations for thickness and fur quality but a Maine or NY coyote is pretty much gonna have as thick of fur as most westerns. (from what I have read).
  3. The time to learn and practice skinning, fleshing and putting up furs is when the prices are low. NOT on a $100 fur. I'd much rather screw up a $5 coon
  4. Agreed, but if you "package" smells like a donkey, it may be worth an investigation.
  5. I was careful to not say Democrat or Republican. Your comment may hold water there. Conservative and Progressive (Liberal), while they do have party connotations, are more mindset and beliefs.
  6. One can choose to label themselves whatever they wish but it doesn't make it reality. Their stance, agenda and what they support or don't support is what would make someone conservative or not.
  7. That's why in my other post I said permission is key. There are some areas that it just makes sense to pass on setting becasue of what could go wrong.
  8. The way they wrote that....if you have permission on the land where you set the distance doesn't come into play any longer. For instance. two houses 50' apart. You have permission from one so you can set. You are within the 100' of the other but legal since you meet the regulation by having permissions from the landowner where you are set. DO you read that the same way that I have? This is one of those times where what is legal probably is the right thing to do.
  9. Well Saturdays check went well. 2 coyotes, one on each farm. Sunday we put in a few of the toughest sets I have ever made. The ground was frozen solid about 8" down. Had to chop out every trap bed and I am not looking forward to pulling those anchors out...lol. The first coyote in the pics had mange very bad. Sunday we placed 3 beaver sets. Tough area to do it. The banks on the stream are about vertical for 5-20'. the entire stream is mothing but large gravel. We found the bank den but cant set within 15'. 330 stands were about useless and the only water deep enough for a drowning rig was within that 15' of the den area. We managed to get 3 sets with 330's in so first check will be this morning. I always thought beaver trapping would be in marsh and silt areas but I guess they will go just about anywhere.
  10. Light enough that if it does pick up sod you can just pick it up off the pile.
  11. That is a lot of tree damage in one basket.
  12. It's back by the candle making stuff. That is where I get the wax to dip the traps. WAY cheaper than trapping supply places. If you want to buy flake wax try Minnesota trapping supply in the future. They have flat rate shipping and I just bought 90# of flake wax and it'll be delivered today. It was just marginally more expensive than the Hobby Lobby deal but I'd have to make multiple trips on multiple days and then take the time to shave it. So I bought it. Hobby lobby will do in a pinch though.
  13. Usually when presented with a set of facts people can draw conclusions from them. They can then decide to accept that as truth. That may not be the same conclusion that others reach when looking at the same facts. We see it all the time. Our frame of reference or beliefs can influence how we frame those facts to determine what the "truth" is. So in reality the truth can be a bit fluid but the facts can not be disputed. Wildcat was using that meme to illustrate that he feels those in support of Trump disregard the "Facts". My post was actually to show that the right has no monopoly on that view since my quote was actually Biden's quote. People can choose how to interpret the facts to determine their "truth" but the facts are still the facts.
  14. Is there a Hobby Lobby near you? 10 # blocks....download their 40% off one item coupon and it ends up being like $18. shave it off with a rasp, a plane or even an old cheese grater works. If not try sand. It may end up working better becasue it won't absorb. Also got to the dollar store and buy a bunch of the table salt with the little flip top pour spout. it's dirt cheap there. Bed in sand....sprinkle salt on it, finish setting and then sprinkle salt across the whole set. Even out from the actual trap footprint a bit. You don't want the circle of the trap to be the only area not frozen. Should get you down to about 18-20 degrees without freeze up
  15. so choosing truth over facts is only accepting points that frame to a specific agenda or support a certain preconceived idea?
  16. What method are you using? We have been using contractors sand in bags currently. Less organic matter so when we heat is a big pan it doesn't smell burned. heat at med heat stirring. I think using flaked wax we are 1 part wax by volume to 4 parts dirt. sprinkle in and stir non stop until you see an even dark color. spread out in a thin layer like on a sheet of plywood and we use a rake to stir it while cooling or it clumps and you end up crushing them apart. store out of heat and in a container to keep it dry. I put a layer of waxed dirt under the trap, Fiberglass insulation under the pans and bed and cover with the waxed dirt. Obviously the neater and tighter you get the trap bed the less waxed dirt you'll use. We bought a "cookie cutter" for the traps we use and it doesn't do great in soil with any rocks but it keeps you from over excavating too much. I like keeping the trap, especially the pan area, a little lower than surrounding but not in this weather. I try to keep it level and give any water a spot to run away from the trap top. oh and I cut the trap bed center lower to tuck the trap chain into so the trap isn't rocking on the chain. Much easier to get a solid bed. Since the chain is surrounded by waxed dirt there is no danger of the chain freezing and getting a pull out becasue of short leverage. https://www.minntrapprod.com/Volkers-Cookie-Cutter-Trap-Bed-Cutter-Select-Your-Size/productinfo/CUTTERS/
  17. opposing infringing laws like the Safe act is fear mongering?
  18. A couple quiet nights but a new property we set last week is also starting to produce. Nice female in a dirt hole set at a logging road crop corner. This Sunday we are headed to a property to try something new. We've been asked to get rid of "some beaver". No idea what this is going to turn into and have never seen the property before. We have foot holds for drowners and 330's ready to go. Stay tuned.
  19. It's not a huge sale and it's in NY. Bobcats are taken here but I'd bet most that are are held because they aren't overly common. If I got in a area where trapping them was legal I'd get a wall hanger done. Like I'm doing with my fisher
  20. That's 16 pounds. and averaged $76.39 a pound. First number is the quantity and second is average price.
