I think it is appropriate to use the term "platform" for the AR and I can't think of a firearm prior that is a modular as it is. There are features that make it very favored by the military and the LEO's and it isn't about how deadly it is. Take an adjustable stock. The petite framed LEO or the linebacker sized SGT. Fits all of them perfectly. Works the same for a parent and child. the modular ability of it is a huge draw. now add the ability to switch calibers in less time than it took me to type this. It is no more deadly than any other semi auto out there. -

The most popular platform sold in the US currently. What do they know? -

You are the poster child for why we have the issues we do. Burn your NRA card will ya. So now how our hands are positioned and what our gun rests on makes a difference. -

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-MGASC223-5RD-AL-G So if I put one of these in an AR then it makes it OK? Same mag size as all our other semi auto mag fed rifles? -

So I suppose these two are functionally different? -

They are blind and don't understand there is NO difference between the AR and any other semi auto mag fed platform in function. They think that if these just went away that the antis would be appeased. They talk about an AR bing used in CT. We should count our lucky stars that shotguns with buckshot wasn't used in these mass shooting. The body count would have been staggering. Look at the recent attempt at the 5.56 ammo. It so t going to got away or stop no matter what we give in to. -

Strip one down and then do the same with a BAR. Change a barrel or caliber on one and then do it with a 7400. Take a 40 to 50 year old Winchester model 100 and find mags or spare parts and then look at spare parts on a mil spec AR. Do those three things and then report back on what you think the draw is. That is outside their dependability accuracy and ability to customize. -

Slaynbux was joking. Unfortunately I believe Stubby was all too serious. -

No all my other ones did. Unfortunately I have never owned one but it is on my list. Fist one will be the AR 10 though. I have hunted with one on several occasions and have thousands of rounds through them. Where in the country are hunters allowed to use 30 round mags? For Stubby --I guess those evil rifles like the Enfield, Garand, Mauser and any listing of shotguns used during WW2 would make those carrying them Patton wannbees? -
depending property, stand and time of year I have a few I can only see 30 yards and others that I can see 400

Yeah it was just to see what rise it got. I do remember stories from my Father and Uncles that the last weekend of gun was a buck tag turning into an either sex. I know they keep talking about shortening gun but about the only way I could get behind that would be to take the first week (maybe two weekends) and make it doe only in the required areas.
-
Wanna make an impact in the high density areas? Peal away the last two weeks of bow and slide it to gun. make it doe only and use your buck tag on an antlerless if you wish.

Not anti gun. Just ignorant of guns. The gun isn't illegal. Just some features on it are. Just as if you added those features to any other removable magazine fed semi automatic. Oh. But the dreaded Belo qualifier. Essentially. -

You said about everything just short of it. Dance all you want you intentions were clear. -
They were so much better from that era. Love the older ones.
-
Sounds like you guys ought to spend a little more time selecting your FIRST firearm...lol
-
Happens when ever you slide outside the norm. I bet if you were in a store out west eh availability would be much better because it is a more common cartridge out there than it is here. Really has to be one of those buy it if you see it efforts for you. Either that or start reloading and them you don't have that issue. 22 Mag continues to be the thorn in my side.

Last time I bought both over the counter the same premium rounds were a tad cheaper in the '06 than the comparable in 270. I shoot the '06, My Father shoots the 270. For just the reason you mentioned. He wanted a softer shooter and went 270 and in a 7400 semi. Thing is a pussy cat to shoot compared to my '06 bolt.

That is exactly what I don't get. How can anyone debate if a specific semi auto rifle has a place in the hunting world? You may be able to make a case based on personal beliefs that semi's in general shouldn't be there but it is tied to the black gun stigma and fear to say the AR alone doesn't. It operates the same way and uses the same rounds. -
Absolutely NOT!!! lol. "I have more guns than I need, but I need more guns than I have". I think we are all on the same page as far as just prioritizing the purchases. Of course there is always the "deal too good to pass up" that screws the entire logic up.
-
Before all my guns fell in the lake off the boat, I wasn't yet to the point that I was doubling up either except for 22's. The largest I had was the '06. The 45-70 was one I have always wanted and maybe I will get lucky at the April 11th banquet. Lol
-
Oh I wish it was always just that easy...lol. If money isn't an issue I would say buy what you want as well. (maybe even two of each). If I had to pick one over the other for a purchase I would grab the 270 for my deer round, but in my opinion if I had an '06 and was looking to purchase a second rifle it wouldn't be an almost redundant purchase. I might opt for a 243 so I could go out varmint hunting an the occasional deer or if I had plans to go after bigger game I might choose to go up the spectrum instead.
-
I don't believe he has any fascination, but his points and questions are valid to anyone considering a 270 while they have a '06 already.
