  1. I agree with this point 200%. I see more guys carrying knives with blades that are way overkill. My favorite knife to carry has a fixed blade 3-1/2" long and only about 1/2" deep.
  2. Is that considered baiting because of the salt content?
  3. Actually my daughter just took the basic hunter education course last week and it was a topic that the instructor covered and they got their certification through the course.
  4. he had to take it two more times because he failed the first two.....Just kidding Belo
  5. Let me put on my tinfoil hat for a minute at throw this out there. It was classified as it is because there is no way the current education structure for the bow hunter education course could keep up with the demand. I think they want as many as they can to invest in a crossbow and that is accomplished buy the current certification process and just the basic hunter education course. Now that they have people invested in the crossbow hunting and with equipment costing $300 and up, they wait a few years. build up the numbers and then start to sell a crossbow stamp. I figure that will be about the time they implement them in the full archery season.
  6. And think of the used deals we can get once the frustration sets in. Lol
  7. Guy I hut with has one and loves it. shoots great. Was wondering if you were able to compare the pricing on the XT? Haven't looked but wonder how much more the interchangeable barrel feature adds now.
  8. Ability appropriate firearms, is what it is all about. No different than for an adult. I started with a BB gun as well and almost ended up like the movie (all fun and games until someone loses and eye)shooting balloons. BB cam right back and hit the end of the barrel. BB's are too hard and ricochet to easily. Started my daughter with a light single pump pellet gun. they don't seem to ricochet as easily.
  9. HIPP number as well and I think they are selling them at least some licensing agents. I got my last one a few years ago at Gander.
  10. numerous places to shoot that aren't not a sanctioned range. We really do need to get you city boys out more...lol
  11. I can understand the desire for an age restriction on the driving but I assure you that there are kids perfectly able to safely and competently drive a car on the roads at younger than 16. I think with the guns there is really less interaction with the general public like driving would present. I wish I could say just leave it to the responsible parents to decide the best course but we all know there are parents that are either unwilling or unable to make those decisions concerning other topics. That said I struggle with a law that infringes on the responsible parents because of the ones that aren't. The fine line we walk with all the laws that get pushed.
  12. some around here as well. That doesn't make sense though (totally driven by insurance companies). because a kid can hunt at 12 so I would think the first time they fire a gun shouldn't be at game. Like I said. to me 12 is just a number but it is totally your call, as it should be.
  13. But the certification is required whenever it is used...right?
  14. Your call but 12 is just a number. He ability to comprehend what you are instructing and her handling of the gun is more important. My father actuall started me out with handling a gun during his cleaning operations when he came back from hunting.
  15. As for the what age is appropriate? I am sure we are just days away from hearing about some bill to regulate that too. As in any parenting situation it should be up to the responsible parent to determine and decide when a child is ready for an activity. There are still details coming out on this but I bet the parents had little or no exposure to firearms prior to this. It was probably thought to be a great facebook post. They failed. The instructor failed too because he should have had the ability to determine the child's capabilities and if they weren't up to what was asked by the parents, he should have refused. IMO
  16. No but we have already seen the push to have "professional and trained paid shooters" to do it "safely" .....at tax payer expense I might add
  17. If you fill your bow tag the first two weeks the grab the ML tag to finish bow season.
  18. but if you buy the full boat as you used to. super sportsman with DMP's you basically save a whopping $1. while out of states got big discounts. I bring this up because the Cuomo lackey making the statement that Cuomo is increasing the opportunities for the NY sportsman is a pile of $&iT
  19. He has them trained now to come up and eat out of the bed of the UTV so it's kind of like ringing the dinner bell when it heads out...lol
  20. WNY, you have enough room up there to mount two bows? I don't think I have seen one that mounts more than a single bow on the roof. Guns, yes but I have seen two bows. outside back window mounts might work pretty well too.
  21. Vince...If you are having those kind of thoughts you may not want to post them on the internet...lol
