Successful in NY? That's saying something...
Culvercreek hunt club replied to phade's topic in Deer Hunting
A license to hunt big game could be anywhere from Free to $29 depending on age an military service. It really isn't that expensive for a hunter to walk out the back door or drive 1/2 and hour to take a deer. You also have to remember that there is a very large portion of the state that does not issue Doe tags. So I think his assertion could be very valid. I have no idea where his is from. -
If you do go down the road of allowing use for a fee, make sure there is insurance tied to it. NY has legal wording (I can't remember the exact clause) that changes just as soon as money exchanges hands.

If you have the part in bold, why would you need the other parts?

I think the difference is what the science of statistical analysis actually is and what some pass off as a true analysis. they are not the same thing. -
Belo, take a deep breath. I have't seen one person here say trespassing was ok, even under the guise of finding / following a dog. Trespassers suck and should know better. One reason why we gave up running whites was becasue the property se hunted had too many around that didn't want to allow hunters on anymore. With the whites you could have just wiated until the dog brought the rabbit back around but we didn't want our dogs even going on others property. (even though there isn'at a law agianst them being there) It just didn't seem right.

You obviously havn't hunted behind hounds running game. Controlling? How do you propose that? Shock collars aren't even effective at the ranges you are away from the dogs?

Well there was a sausage fest weekend
Culvercreek hunt club posted a topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
That got you attention,...LOL Well the bulk of our meat was turned into varios sausage recipes this past weekend. We started out with 195# of Venison. 20# of pork shoulder and 5# of beef fat. We made 20# of summer sausage (Came out wonderful) 20# of Pepperoni (Great texture, spice and flavor, will be a camp hit this year) 20# of Hotdogs (haven't tried these yet so jury is out. BUT I don't care for how they look. Time will tell) 20# of Medium Italian sausage 140# of 3 differnt snack stick recipes mild with cheddar cheese Mild plain Hot plain. (favorite fo the whole group) real winnner!!! the thing that made it easier than last year was the remote thermometer with alarm. Set internal temp and have some beers. 3 guys and it took us 26 hours over 2 days. (from set up to totally clean) Pictures coming. -
we get walkers along out posted lines too. I almost feel better having them there, rather than 50 yards off and jumping one on the line and firing into our property....lol. Tough call. Knock on wood we have only had a few cases and I only had to get upset with one pair of guys. It was pre hunting season and they were on wheelers. Couple of Mid-20's that were out to casue trouble.....and they found it.

It is a leash...if he is using it for that I have no idea. The radio is a Marine Midland Radio---Marine---and has access to emergency channels and weather updates. (I have a friend that uses that same model radio)

Actually In Ny trespassing is trespassing but if not legally posted you can not have the violator arrested then, until you give them formal written notification that they did trespass. Then you can get them the next time. Much easier to just post it legally. I would bet that SplitG2 is to the letter of the law on his. Name, address, two signs facing both directions at outside corners, one at any change in direction and one every 660' (minimum) I would strongly recommend a lot closer than 660', especially if cover is thick. I post to be able to see two sigs from any spot on our property.

Great post, Phade. All my cams are C's but I will be upgrading. Good info

Split----I wasn't condoning anyone to trespass. I grew up hunting behind beagles and hounds and I know our dogs made it onto other peoples property even when we were hunting large tracts we had permission for and even on large State Land. Unfortunately as good as the dogs were trained we could never seem to get them to buy into the readign of posted signs...lol. When running cottontails it was never a problem but when running whites this time of year it could be off to the races when they got on a male. Even worse, for some reason it seemed the hounds that were great on whites would take a fox at the drop of a hat. It was not uncommon for the dogs to end up over a mile away from where we were hunting becasue, apparently, the quarry didn't read the signs either...lol. We never trespassed. we used to try to cut the dogs off at an intersectin road when they crossed and with todays technology with tracking collars cutting them off and finding the dogs is a lot easier. While not as old as Pygmy I do remember when no land around where we hunted was posted and no one cared if you ran through. You knew the big farmers and they knew you. Different times back then. Many of the really big tracts of private land are gone, all broken up. Gettign permission during a run that has gone bad isn't all that easy.(NO EXCUSE). Imagine trying to get every property owners permission in a mile radius, or more, prior to setting the dogs loose. Worse yet imagine trying to get permission while tracking your dog on one of those runs. The dog is likely already though the property. If not how would you ever get permission with so many landowners living elsewhere? Again, not condoning trespassing but having run dogs I can understand how a hunt could go bad. Do you know guys around that area that have hounds? Mant times they aren't kept as house pets, so a drive around the block may very well give you a lead on who it was.

Looks like that leather strap across his chest is a do leash. I used to carry mine like that when we were afield. Looks like a rifle too. know anyone up there running coyotes?

Wayne County Pistol Permit
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Five Seasons's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
pick out your pistol, Pay in full (If you are confident you will get it) and take possession of the mags right then. You own them prior to April 15th so you are good to go wehn your permit comes though and you pick up the pistol...but get the Mags NOW. -
The most disturbing part of the bill is "SPECIFICALLY COVERING ANY DAMAGES RESULT- 7 ING FROM ANY NEGLIGENT OR WILLFUL ACTS INVOLVING THE USE OF SUCH FIREARM 8 WHILE IT IS OWNED BY SUCH PERSON." Will your insurance be used to provide medical coverage or death benefits to a burglar that you shoot while in your house? Imagine your premium increases then!!! I have seen estimates of $165 per $100,000 of coverage. I don't know it that is unit cost or if there is an economy of scale. but if it is a per unit cost then 10 units would be required and could build to an annual cost of $1,650 per year. I bet that the number of firearms you own would increase a premium and who knows what insurance companies would use as a basis to judge your risk factors.

Let's throw some gas on the fire - MI Report
Culvercreek hunt club replied to phade's topic in CrossBow Hunting
In their 30's? If I think way way back to when I was in my 30's...LOL. I was a new Father at 30. I had bought my first house at 30. maybe the draw in that age group really is the fact that less practice is needed to become proficient. I know I was tied up in growing my career and there were 4 years in my 30's that becasue of travel for work and home life I was unable to practice with my bow to a level that I felt the confidence that I needed. I did not buy a bow license those years and only gun hunted. If I had access to a crossbow and it was legal I may have still gotten the license and got a few days in . If that age group really does have a draw to the cross bow, I can see what it may actually be. -

Just an FYI......Not making excuses but it is very common for a Sophomore to 16. That is one failing grade. -

Ths one variable that the study does not seem to address I think makes a big difference. It studied shootings in and around residences. I can not see if they mean that the people involded in the actual incident were the residents there and that it was actually the residents gun that was used for the crime. It also does not note if the gun used was even legally owned.
