  1. I am up by the Beaver Dam State Forest, kind of between Marathon and Lisle. The hunting has been OK. The bucks are a little harder to come by but we are on a hill...the valleys are AG lands and when the corn is standing it can be a slow go. I have high hopes this year becasue everything within a 2 mile radius is all harvested. SHould help our cause. We have had it for 5 years now and we have seen some good bucks but haven't connected with them yet. I know the area produces some realllllly nice ones and they have been taken right adjacent to our property. We have taken more does than bucks besides our regular DMP's we get DMAP's from the timber company we lease from. Good luck and I hope the season produces for you.
  2. Ya the first thing we got to "test" were stickers that were camo that you were supposed to stick on your face instead of a headnet. LOL...i can just picture not having shaved.....ripping those things off ??? ???
  3. i scope all my guns that I use for deer for the same reason...my eyes are shot..lol. the guns are capable of a lot more accuracy than these eyes are. good luck with it
  4. I have a relationship with my neighbors so if I had a problem with them I would talk to them....if the people coming on my property were there for illegal purposes...I would call the cops....and for that fact if the neighbors were breaking the law I would too...guess I am an idiot by your definition
  5. My buddy actualy called me from the stand Sunday evening and was watching a buck actually mounting a doe. I didn't figure they would be that far in yet but he was on the phone describing it. He hasn't lied to me yet.....that I know of anyway...lol
  6. speed loaders are a must have. makes the components so much easier to handle. Ididn't see in your post if you are scoping it or not?
  7. nice...keep the pics an dput them under the mount on the wall
  8. well that one you won't get me to sign on for...lol. too many guys dont bow hunt. And in a VERY selfish role since my father cant anymore I wouldn't want to see his hunting season ....and equally his hunting time with me ...shortened. If they threw xbows in and did that I could probably get on board but who knows how they would structure it
  9. Same here. If I have the tags I will...keep the same standards but I have only pulled it off a few times. I would love to see them do it though and see if the results come up to the hype
  10. I do the same thig but use the neck for it. trim it out very well.....and freeze it whole to use for a party. I cook it till it falls off te bones and it actually has that same stringy texture as pulled pork
  11. read around on the site...there seems to be a lot of support for the state going to One buck only. I actually support it. It may help age teh bucks a little more. the only problem is just what we are talking about....The ones tah will either not tag a deer or use someone elses tag on it. But you know what...outlaws will be outlaws regardless of the changes made.
  12. I believe you hit the nail on the head...no pun intended. I have used portable wooden ladder stand on state land. strap it to a tree. they are very cheap to build and you need 3 men to drag them in and set up....so chances are no one is going to steal them...if they do, they really worked for it. I don't believe there is any requirement that a stand needs to be taken down "at the end of the season"...what season...lol. I use to just release tension on the ratchets and leave them in place.
  13. That is illegal and if I had evidence of It I would turn you or that person in. If things are that tight...spend less daylight in the woods and get another job.
  14. My suggestion to you Isles. if you know if for a fact ...report it. The consequences are not a concern. I would have to look at the DEC site but there is a TIPPS hotline I think and it is annonymous (sp) Hondo. If you saw it on this sight. PM the guy and ask for clarification. It pisses me off too to have guys taking multiple bucks. I have limited tags and I have passed on immature bucks this year because I now what is around. Darn thing....Does won't get within shooting distance and the little bucks are dancing around my stands. Now I will say this. if they tighten up on the number of DMP's issued and they get tougher to get bu still allow them to be signed over. My daughter WILL be getting her license even though she will not hunt. But in the current set up I can put the 2 does in the freezer that I need to. Is that wrong......I don't think so. If they stop the ability to sign over DMP's I wouldn't do it
  15. I don't know either. I gues only he does. I was just saying it is possible to do and stay within the laws. The law ans the hunters that follow it will never be able to totally clean up the sport. I just run by the guideline that I chose to and need to be able to look my self in the mirror at night...as unappealing as that may be...lol
  16. Well you can take two bucks during early season and do it legally...here is how. Hunt northern zone with left over either sex tag from last season and then after October 1st take one on this seasons tag. I have done it twice and it is all legal
  17. I have mil surplus silks. I love them. I also have coldgear but they feel a bit restrictive. they keep me warm but the feeling of having your hair pulled after about 4-5 hours in them drives me nuts.
  18. It really is a nice spot. I have jumped a very nice buck off that side hill 3 years in a row during cold windy days. you just cant sneak up on them before they bust you. I am hoping that he gets there before they do one day. He is getting less mobile each year so that is why I chose the mason scaffold. very sound structurally and if I wrap it in camo fabric he can actuall ride teh wheeler to the stand and park right under it inside the fabric.
  19. What you call lack of self control others call hunting....and well with in their legal right issued by the state in the form of a license. Don't get to close to the edge of that pedestal you are putting yourself on....falls can hurt
  20. put yourself in another person's shoes. you are 65 and/or on a fixed income...you live up north and are 2 hours one way from an area that has DMP's. are you going to go? It is a tough call. The desire may be there but not the means
  21. He's always wanted one like this so who am I to question. I am betting when I am sitting in my open ladder stand on a 0 degree day I will be making a small push to him to get in and warm up though
  22. Lol....thanks. He wants to spend all day there. I carpeted the floor and put shelves in. It is 4.5' x 7 on the inside. All it needs is a cot
