I have friends that imagine meat coming off the "meat tree" at Wegmans. Let's face it guys.....and not to steal a saying form others...but....You can't fix stupid -
Oh...how about those noisey hot seats....you couldn't shift your weight without making a ton of noise...good point on the hanging deer...hardly ever see them anymore. we use to drive around towm on the way home every night to the houses that had "meat poles" and see what everyone had hanging. The arm bands was a bit before me but I do remember the 4, 3, 2 guys on a party permit.

I remember coming out of the woods at noon to a cast iron skillet of frying venison on an old coleman stove. rubber pack boots that were so tight you hade to put old bread bags on your feet so you could slide your feet back out. Then when you were lucky you step up to the smowmobile boots.. I too had the Woolrich bibs and a red wollrich coat. I loved how warm they were and how nice and heavy they felt after a goot rain storm. it repelled water pretty well but once it got in it was like carrying a person on your back. how about the red or green wool hats with the fold down ear lappers. I remember snow for shotgun season...not just a dusting....i mean real snow...knee height or higher. I remember hunting and you might not see a deer all day and then all of a sudden 10-20 would come by in single file...looking down the smooth barrel top at the single brass bead of my Montgomery Ward eastfield" pump...just trying to grow a horn on one of them...never seemed to work. Gonna sound funny but i remember the smell of my Father's cigarettes on a zero degree day...blowing around his shoulder and it had a much different smell than normal...it smelled like hunting...wierd to talk about second hand smole fondly but some smells just bring you back. I hope we all get a chance to sit around with a few buddies over the season and tell these type of stories....to me that is what the whole hunting experience is all about.

Sex on the beach A man was washed up on a beach after a shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around, he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island. After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset. One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it. But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercely until the man took his arm from around the sheep. After that, the three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together, but there was no more cuddling. A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck. The only survivor was Nancy Pelosi. That evening, the man brought Nancy to the evening beach ritual. It was another beautiful evening - red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm and gentle breeze - perfect for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the man started to get those feelings again. He fought the urges as long as he could but he finally gave in and leaned over to Nancy and told her he hadn't had sex for months. Nancy batted her eyelashes and asked if there was anything she could do for him. He said, 'Take the dog for a walk.'

Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
And at15 most humans are sexually mature. I miss your point unless you are attempting to place a human characteristic on an animal....like mental maturity and the need to be socially able to care for the baby.....naw....you wouldn't be doing that.....that is usually an Anti's type of a move.....bottom line...if an animals is biologically capable of mating.....they are sexually mature. -

2009 Survey and NYS management outline
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Doewhacker's topic in General Hunting
Exactly John....I was noting the descrepencies....they are fo antler restrictions but want to choose...lol.. I think they were reading our forum . I have to reread it but it looks like there are lines drawn on the type of hunting one does. I wish they made the breakdown for all the %'s on the slides. the 58% sayig the most important thing is their choice....isn't broken down buy type of hunter....I find that curious. Obviously they have the info. -
Well Christmas is right around the corner so you might want to skip hunting after Thanksgiving and hit the Black Friday sales...lol

I guess as a whole us NY hunters are a greedy self serving bunch...lol Taling about the one buck rull....the "other" hunters...gun rifle...that would only take one buck are highly for a one buck rule....since that is all they take anyway....the bow/muzz that can take two are against a one buck rule. gotta say I am not surprised -

not to disagree but the 58% said the MOST important thing is the ability to take the buck they want to. -
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.html use this it has all of them for the state. after you find one...google the name and many have write ups on the web... Good luck
-
I am certainly not one to ask since I failed terribly every time this year so far when a shooter was in sight but not range
-
and there are still some available in certain areas....I know 8F & 8G...maybe someone would want one of them in exchange for the one you are looking for...costs you nothing since you applied for one and got rejected

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
Seems a little like apples and oranges to me. They both would be regulations (which you obviously aren't too keen on following) but one is safety and one is a managment strategy. Your view that orange would not make a difference ...can you clarify...not make a difference in being seen by a hunter...seen by a deer? -

Take a peek at this. I had seen the full research but can't find it now. One study even looked at the bodies response to just the sighting of a big buck and as I remember the heart rate and BP went through the roof. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1882904/posts -
Adjoining Bedding & Feeding = Tough Hunting!
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Deer Hunting
I would probably avoid the hacking part...lol...maybe a well worn deer trail...anything that let's you slide in but you may have to be VERY early. I use to have access to a spot lik that and hunted it off the ground...kept the wind in mind and sat right on the ground all day. paid off with a few small bucks. It was in my "it has horns...it goes down" days so I never got a chance to see if it held a monster but it sure looked like it could. The first 25 yards in was basically on my hands and knees. slide in with the wind in your face and see what happens...worse thing that happens is it ends up being a scouting operation. -
Adjoining Bedding & Feeding = Tough Hunting!
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Deer Hunting
well you might need a trail and a stand right in the heart of it. During a full moon like we are going to have their night time feeding activity should be high, especially if there is no cloud cover. A very early morning sneak into the heart of their bedding just might put you there for their trip back in. my 2 cents -
decoy action.

I wanted to get it on video but it wasn't showing up...It was pretty cool seeing that little guy all puffed up...stomping and strutting like he was king $hit...lol. I think he was lucky the decoy wasn't real...must be he hadn't gotten his but whipped by one of the big boys there yet. -
