  1. Buck decoy....in hind sight I probably should have removed the horns...maybe the big guys wouldn't have shyed away then...the spike pranced right up though....stupid youth...lol
  2. I am heading to camp on Friday morning to get it opened and have my Father and 2 buddies joining us. We have a huge dinner planned to kick the season off and a few games of cards. My uncle and cousin join us for Mon,tues,Wed and two more buddies come in for the Friday thru Sinday after Thanksgiving. Dad and I are hunting from the 20th to the 28th with only a breather for Thanksgiving dinner. I have a buck tag-2 doe tags and 2 DMAP's just burning a hole in my pocket. I will be on stand by 6 am and have stands and blinds to choose form weather depending. Good luck to everyone...be safe and enjoy it.
  3. same for me----dozens of little ones under the stand but the shooters wouldn't come in. No regretts...the equalizer comes out this weekend ...let those big boys hang up on me at 60-100 yards now...lol. I am very confused about the season as well. I have not seen a mature doe in the woods in 2 weeks...fawns without does...you...but nothing big enough to shoot.
  4. Maybe I am all wet but I wouldn't put much faith in buck rubs at this point in the season. Scrapes are what I would be focusing on...and maybe not even them. A deer that is locked up with a doe is not going to be scraping. I really believe...right or wrong that most scrape activity at this time will be by immature bucks that can not find a partner yet. The bigger boys inthe woods will be having first dibbs on the hot does. If the "experts" are right this year will be a dragged out rut and that should mean the more mature bucks will be spending a lot of time locked up with does. If your area has produced in the past I wouldn't give up. All you need is the does to be there or get pushed in and you are golden. The pressure will build fast with the opener and your little sanctuary will be great. I have a small 10 acre plot I save for the end of gun. it is bow only and loaded with deer come the final half of gun season. My 2 cents but I think you will be fine.
  5. I was in Gander Mtn. on Friday and they had a sign up that extra permits are still available in 8F & G...FYI
  6. It is harder to pass too if you know there is almost no chance of seeing a buck or a decent one. It made passing very easy for me this year knowing the 3 spots I hunt during bow hold some real trophies.
  7. The only wat to guarantee you won't get one is to not be in the woods. Don't give it up. All it takes is one hot doe to decide to drag a big boy by you
  8. Come on...fess up. That was a loaded comment. Don't keep us all in suspense
  9. Related to our Doc? He lives near Bristol.....and it is a somewhat unusual surname. Regardless.....prayers for the families. Eric is my cousin. His death is a tremendous loss to the family. He will be missed. God bless you and the Family, Doc. You all will be in my prayers.
  10. Well yesterday was a good day. I moved from my spot and into a blind that is set up on a grass way between corn and bedding. I saw 5 bucks...no does. the two shooters wanted no part of the decoy and hung up at around 90 yards at a scrape. But this little spike was gutsey going nose to nose with the decoy. Wish the big boys did this...but i guess that is how they got big...lol
  11. I read it...good article. She probably did better than I could....I think I would have come unglued seeing him come to me. Maybe her not realizing how big it really was....was a blessing...lol. Great buck.
  12. That is perfect...we can try something new...lol
  13. Snuck in on a stand that is a great funnel…only good with this south west wind...I have a long wait...it is really an evening watch
  14. Tough weekend,whitetail....a lot of guys sighting in for next weekend opener
  15. At home...just played peekaboo with a 4 and a nice 6...no does yet
  16. Only one deer so far..small spike at field edge.
  17. It really is a shooter...was just thinking of ading barrels and scopes to my Encore and this thing just hangs around and doesn't get used much. We lost the farms we use to chuck hunt on and I haven't shot it in almost 3 years. No need to dump it just thought maybe someone could use a good one
  18. TK didn't bit on the gun so I think I will list it. It is a Remington 700....HS precision stock...has had trigger work done to it to polish and adjust. The guy I bought it from said he had a custom trigger put in but I don't believe it....looks just like my other 700's triggers. For anything other than bench or varmit I would adjust it up a bit. I have never had it scaled but it is light...crisp and very little travel. It has the varix III 6.5-20 x44 on it. I have taken chucks out to 425 yards with it....300 yard shots are a slam dunk ...prone on a bipod. I don't have a bipod anymore though. The barrel is mint. The pictures are with a buddy's bipod on it. The pod doesnt go with it. I have $1,000 into it and would like $900.
  19. I don't know where you hunt myke...or where it was taken ...but it sure looks like a NZ buck
  20. I agree with the hole light at night aspect but....did you guys notice last night how at 10 pm the moon had already settled over the horizion and was NOT visible. so what is your take on teh effects then? Ok it is fullbut they can't see it...lol
  21. The guy is no different than a bank robber. he was not a hunter he was a thief stealing a resource from the people of the state. Anyone know if PA has the death penalty?
  22. During Bow and first week of gun he probably walks...After that is there are no does in the freezer...might be a different story....but if it was my first buck....he would be mounted and on the wall just as you did. He is MUCH bigger than any buck I shot the first 15 years of hunting
  23. Like I said before...given the current economic times....might be a lot of folks without the means to make those 2 hour trip to hunt. Gas......possible lodging...ect.
